Meet up groups and men

Has anyone else experienced this? I live in a town, and I used the meetup.com website. This is a website that shows local meetup groups in the area. In my town there is about 8 regular meetup groups. There is a coffee meetup, a walking meetup, a social Friday night meetup etc.

Three men that I really don't like, go to every single meetup. One of the men is very handsy and makes me feel uncomfortable. For example he will put his arm around my back, but his hand will too far until it is touching my breast from behingd If I see him on a night out I spend my time avoiding him.

The second man is very sexist and tells sexist jokes. The third man is just awful - he just gives off a very bad vibe.

They go to every single meetup. I've tried a variety. They go to the coffee meetups, the walking meetups, the hiking meetups, the drinking meetups.

I just feel like I can't go to any more to any of them. I feel so uncomfortable around these men. I feel sad as I was really enjoying it if it wasn't for those men.

I don't know what to do. There is no easy answer really is there. Just wondered if anyone else experienced this at these meetup groups

Could you start a group for women? Don't know if it is allowed.

That's awful OP. Is there an organiser you could talk to or another woman in the group you could team up with?

BCBird · 11/02/2023 22:17

Don't let those assholes stop you going. As they approach you put ur arm out to prevent them getting closer. Yes it will feel.a bit uncomfortable but they have no right to do this. Who organises these things, can you approach the orgainsers about this? Have you got anyone you could go with or arrange to meet when you get there?

Jesus - if the handsy one comes anywhere near you again, tell him VERY loudly to take his hands off you.

It sounds frustrating but do other people not just ignore them? Can you do that?

About 15 years ago, a lone parent friend set up a single parent meet up group in our area. She was mostly approached by weekend dads who were clearly using it as a chance to meet women. They’d often sign up to parent and child meet-ups without their kids. She folded it after a few months.
