how long can you sit in a pub without a drink

So after you've had a meal each and a drink each, how long can you sit in the pub afterwards without a drink?

The pub was busy and it was a Friday night

15 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour?

No time really. 5 minutes grace to use the loo and get your bits and pieces together?

After that, either buy a drink or leave!

BIWI · 11/02/2023 13:30

What's the AIBU?!

If I was a landlord of a busy pub on a Friday night, and saw you without a drink for longer than 30 minutes I'd be a bit hacked off. Don't know what I'd do about it though!

WeCome1 · 11/02/2023 13:31

Not long at all. A few minutes. Why?

gogohmm · 11/02/2023 13:32

15 minutes is fair enough once all food is eaten, all drinks drunk - I'd order the bill within 10 minutes then takes 5 mins to pay, get coat's together etc. I'm guessing someone stayed a lot longer, I wouldn't question 20 mins if they are using the toilet in stages etc but much more is annoying

gamerchick · 11/02/2023 13:32

About 5 minutes. Cheeky to take space on a busy night without buying something.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 11/02/2023 13:32

Much less than 15 minutes

DaveyJonesLocker · 11/02/2023 13:32

Not long. 15 minutes max.

Purplehyena · 11/02/2023 13:32

5/10 mins to go to the loo, get yourself together and decide if you’re having another drink or not.

Hellsmovie · 11/02/2023 13:32

How long did they give you?

That's obviously where this Is going

Hydie · 11/02/2023 13:33

5/10 mins max. Anything longer is rude.

afinishedkiss · 11/02/2023 13:33

15 mins max. Anything longer is taking the piss.

Pinkdafodils · 11/02/2023 13:33

The pub was busy and it was a Friday night

Then surely people would be queuing up for your table when you finished eating

Thesearmsofmine · 11/02/2023 13:34

10/15 minutes if with children and they’re going to the toilet, getting coats on etc

Just adults, 5-10minutes.

Notimeforaname · 11/02/2023 13:35

In Ireland you couldnt do this. People would be sweating and would just buy you a drink 🤣

Ostryga · 11/02/2023 13:35

You don’t. You vacate the table so it can be turned, or order another drink.

AndTheSurveySays · 11/02/2023 13:43

5/10 mins to let food settle and use the toilet.

Florissant · 11/02/2023 13:49

A few minutes to use the lavatory, settle the bill and get coats.

ivykaty44 · 11/02/2023 13:49

I'd be a bit hacked off. Don't know what I'd do about it though!

I was hacked off, 45 minutes they sat there! and twice I went over and asked if I could get them any more drinks....

Johnnysgirl · 11/02/2023 13:51

No time at all. If you're staying; buy a drink.

Prinnny · 11/02/2023 13:51

If the food and drinks are finished you settle the bill and leave. Especially if it’s busy and there’s other customers waiting. I hate people who are finished and hog tables when they can clearly see others are waiting!

Why didn't you tell them the tables were for people buying drinks?!

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 11/02/2023 13:52

I'd say about 15-20 minutes.

Yeah, that's really rude of them. They absolutely should have ordered another round.

LavenderHillMob · 11/02/2023 13:54

How do you lot manage to get your bill's so quick?

I can't bear waiting around too long after I've finished eating - I'd rather pay & go. Do you think I can catch anyone's eye to ask for the bill though?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/02/2023 13:54

Yeah that’s far too long when they’re no longer eating or drinking.

I’d say 15 mins max
