Air Up - Tastes like water

shad0wm00n · 11/02/2023 09:06

I’ve succumbed to the school pressure and bought my kids the Air Up water bottles, but after cheekily trying one myself, I am not sure they are working / set up properly as the water still tasted like water.

So AIBU to think this may have been a waste of money?

If you have them for your kids, have you tried them and thought they worked?

I think you have to pull the flavour ring thing up (or down? I can't remember). One way it works and the other way it's plain water.

GertrudeBell · 11/02/2023 09:20

Yes, pull the ring up.

I didn’t know what it was so googled and then went and looked at the reviews on Amazon. If you look at the recent reviews the last twenty or so are all negative/ one star which people saying it doesn’t work, leaks or tastes like an old cup which you have previously drunk squash from.

windyarse · 11/02/2023 09:35

I think some brains can't be tricked. It tastes like water because it is water.

shad0wm00n · 11/02/2023 09:35

It feel a a bit ‘Emperor’s new clothes’ as everyone else is raving about them at school and my kids swear it tastes amazing, but I can just taste water!

“Old cup that you drank squash from” is exactly how I described it to dh.

Dd wanted on for ages. She passed a really hard exam and got one as a well done present.

Waste of bloody money (although obviously won’t be telling an 8 year old who worked hard for it that).

Workawayxx · 11/02/2023 09:37

I find it sort of tricks you but obviously doesn’t have the aftertaste of squash/juice so is different in that respect.

shad0wm00n · 11/02/2023 09:37

Ok I’m going to try fiddling with the ring to see if that works.

I’ve always thought it still just tasted like water but my DD loves it.

With regards to the leaks, I emailed a complain about it and they sent me some instructions back on closing it, I was pissed off at first that they hadn’t taken me seriously but turns out they were right.

BatsPigeonsRatsSquirrels · 11/02/2023 09:40

I don't think they're great at all. I can smell the smell, I still just taste water.
ds takes it into school though, I think it's a real case of the emperor's new clothes

I have only tried the lemon one so far but it tastes like water to me. There is a slight taste of lemon as if the bottle had previously had squash in it.

TenThousandSpoons · 11/02/2023 09:47

This was a big Xmas day disappointment for my DS, mainly because he felt other kids must have been lying about the “taste”. I like the idea above of “some brains can’t be tricked” - I will tell him he must have a superior brain!

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/02/2023 10:03

It tastes disgusting to me. Water with the tiniest bit of scent / odd flavour. Dd likes it. Meh.

I know this is old thread, but I just got 2 airups for the price of 1, gave one away as a present and kept the other. The airup to me tasted like just water and nothing else. I tried all the fixes it recomends, still tasted like water. Then my daugther, whose autistic come in the room, I said 'taste that for me', she complied and said 'thats nice, cherry cola flavor'. I was astounded! Then I tested it on the other 4 of my kids, only one could not taste it like me and the others identified the flavor straight away without me telling them. So it must be an individual thing, maybe covid had something to do with it since a lot of us lost our sence of taste or small as one of the first symptoms. Makes you wonder
