Is there a solution to this? (Blinds)

We have windows in our loft. They have blackout blinds fitted, which work perfectly when the windows are shut. However in summer we need to sleep with them open, so the sun shines through the opening and wakes us. This must be something that someone has designed a solution to, surely? Maybe a dark mesh fitted to the cavity rather than the glass? Any ideas? I hate losing sleep with the early sunrises

True. Will go and get one in a min, tho it's a bit messy as that's my husbands side of the bed.
Thanks so much for all the suggestions by the way! Am considering everything

I don’t care about mess!just thinking we might have better ideas if we knew what it looked like!

But as you can see they are low and the bed is very close

That won’t help with a velux though.

Sorry, completely read the OP wrong
Yes these will not help 🤦‍♀️

This would work with my suggestion. Curtain pole where thick pink line is, wore or dowel rod or whatever where the darker line is. Curtain on pole slots behind the wire/dowel and hangs to the floor.

Surely a fastening like Velcro at all four corners and a panel of stiffened blackout? Get a great fabric. Use fusing fabric to attach to the blackout panel. Velcro.

The only problem being getting the Velcro securely stuck to the wall- which would need a big piece of Velcro on the wall and a small one on the fabric.

If you like it, eventually tidy/strengthen it up with a batten at the top so you can staple the Velcro on for security.

picklemewalnuts · 10/02/2023 18:23

In fact, batten with fabric stapled to it below the window. During the day it hangs down from there. When you want close it, attach it to the Velcro at the top.

How about Blocblinds (that's the brand) or equivalent?
Might be worth emailing or phoning them to check they work on an angle but would assume they do as they run inside a channel (like the velux).

shoes4life · 10/02/2023 21:16

@cardibach you're right - will look into it 👍🏻

I can just imagine my cats swinging from the Velcro 🤣

I keep the velux window (which is above the bed) closed, but open the doors into the eaves cupboard which is relatively cool. When it's really hot, I slightly open the juliet balcony to get a through draft, and wear an eye mask for the light.
