Season four - You

I'm two episodes into season four of 'You', I like it, but just feel that an American decided on the London scenes, rather than getting a Londoner to create these.

For example he came to London and is living in South Kensington? Seems like a pricey area to live in if your working as a lecturer?

Also, the actors accents seem to be a bit much.

I don’t think any of the actors are putting on an accent as far as I know?
I’m not massively familiar with london but i don’t think the show is meant to be hyper realistic really. It’s a bit camp and OTT. And that’s deliberate and part of the appeal. IMO anyway.

I thought its release had been delayed. I wanted to re-watch the other seasons first, so I will come back to this. I might wait until March and watch them all together. I think You was always a bit bonkers. It’s sort of the point. I hope this season is good though!

The London geography is hilarious... he walks home from work at Royal Holloway - which is in Egham, outside the M25... then he has apparently walked across London as you see him in the East End... which would mean doubling back on himself again to get to South Ken. We're talking best part of 10 hours walking here!

@Watercoloursky right!

Even Netflix were making fun of this lols

I also think they are concentrating way too much on the UKs obsession with class

I know Charlotte Richie from Ghosts and she was a contestant in Taskmaster. Her accent in You seems very over the top! Especially as she seems fairly posh in real life already.

DH & I were also laughing at how Joe can afford such a lovely flat in South Kensington on a single uni lecturer’s wage!

Lapland123 · 18/02/2023 20:48

I just wish Joe/ Jonathan would shave that horrid beard! And get a haircut ffs!

Saju1 · 19/02/2023 15:17

@Lapland123 definitely!

It is just too much

I gave up 2 episodes in. It's lost its way and is utterly ridiculous now

monicagellerbing · 19/02/2023 15:25

It explains in the first episode that Malcolm has let him stay in the flat, it's not Joe's it's Malcolm's

MermaidEyes · 19/02/2023 15:31

Watched all of it so far and can't say I'm particularly impressed. I found I didn't give a crap about any of the posh toffs, they could have all died for all I cared. It felt like London for the American audience to me. You know how much they love stuff like Agatha Christie and Downton Abbey. That's not the real UK. Also, is it just me or is Joe's voice getting more and more gravelly? It's really quite distracting once you notice it. Even Dh commented on it.

Royal Holloway is one beautiful university. Stunning place. I had a look with my dd a couple of years ago and couldn’t believe it’s architecture
