Hi

I was walking near a row of shops to go in to the post office and there was a group of kids I would say around 13 stood outside the fish and chip shop. Out of no where one of them rode up to me really fast on his electric scooter and nearly knocked me over just I was turning to go into the post office then turned back to his friends so it was definitely on purpose. All his friends fell about laughing. Would you report this to 101 or am I being OTT. Just thinking they could really hurt someone by doing this. He was extremely close to knocking into me.

Err no, what do you think the police will do?

Hadyhil · 09/02/2023 17:36

Well I thought that electric scooters were not allowed on pavements

No. I wouldn't. Yabu

The police won't care about thator the scooter on the path. They cant be there all the time to stop it... it's nothing.

SilverHydrangea · 09/02/2023 18:16

Well actually I would report this on 101 - sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

Redbone · 09/02/2023 18:19

Yes , report on 101. What he was doing is illegal.

LakeTiticaca · 09/02/2023 18:20

When this brat runs into an elderly person and kills them the police will have to act

Cocobutt · 09/02/2023 18:48

The police don’t do anything unless you know exactly who they are (and even then they probably won’t).

If you have Facebook then you can put a post on a local group warning people to be careful and hopefully a parent will have a word with the child and say to not get involved with that sort of thing.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 09/02/2023 18:50

You can report the general ASB of everything they are doing- being threatening whilst congregating outside the shop.

Hopefully a community plod will move them along.

Bamboozle123 · 09/02/2023 18:51

No, not now as there's nothing they will be able to do.

If the child is riding the scooter on the road and you see this, probably worth reporting at that moment.

Radiatorvalves · 09/02/2023 18:51

I would report. Might not be acted on, but you’ll have done the right thing. Kids like that need to learn…

CoorieIn · 09/02/2023 18:52

Absolutely report. It's antisocial behaviour.

DuplicateUserName · 09/02/2023 18:54

No, the police around here (Met) very rarely come out for burglaries now, and never for car theft.

So I really wouldn't bother reporting this but if you think it's worth a shot, then go for it. It's no big deal to just quickly make an online report to 101.

SpinningFloppa · 09/02/2023 19:07

The police didn’t do anything when I reported a man who threaten to beat me up at the bus stop so yeh again, what do you think the police will do? They are illegal in public but no one cares and people use them all the time there’s parents at my kids school who use them on the school run

Rightsraptor · 09/02/2023 19:43

Yes phone 101 or do it online.

The fact that the cops won't do anything is irrelevant. It still needs reporting.

Bedusa · 09/02/2023 20:09

Yes I would report.

unsync · 09/02/2023 20:16

You'll probably find yourself on TikTok now.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 09/02/2023 20:19

I'd report, the police control room deal with so much serious stuff that they could do with a laugh 😃

bellocchild · 09/02/2023 20:24

If he was in school uniform, report him to the school for dangerous behaviour. Put it on social media too, mentioning school in question.

OhClunge · 09/02/2023 20:32

That's a bit mean
It's antisocial behaviour
The police actually need these things reported to enforce their argument for more officers

PollyPut · 09/02/2023 20:45

Is there any CCTB nearby that would help identify them?

PollyPut · 09/02/2023 20:46

CCTV (of course)

TheFairyCaravan · 09/02/2023 20:49

Yes , I’d report it.

Its antisocial behaviour and electric scooters are illegal.

Burgoo · 09/02/2023 20:52

Report it on the police website. Don't call 999 or anything like that, but they do need to know these things so that it can inform their planning in the future. If the police don't know the issues they won't direct resources into those areas.

For example, if antisocial behaviour is rife in an area and the police don't know, they will assume the area is crime free and will be less likely to funnel funds into neighbour policing. It is so important they have a good picture of what is happening in their patch.

I've reported a number of issues - including weed smoking (a lot of it not a one-off), rowdiness in public spaces, motorcycles on paths and people riding loud cars at midnight. Why? Because otherwise they don't know. I don't cause a fuss though, most police forces have websites where you can report things like this. Its all intelligence and often adds to the bigger picture.

Burgoo · 09/02/2023 20:54

@TheCaddieisaBaddie "I'd report, the police control room deal with so much serious stuff that they could do with a laugh"

All hilarious when someone gets knocked down and killed by these idiots.
There have been cyclists who have hit and killed people in the past, these things can go fast and it only takes hitting an old person and they fall and bang their head.

I suspect you are one of those "don't report verbal harassment" types
