How much?!

Popped into local cafe this morning to grab a sandwich and coffee as in a mad rush and I am having building work done at home, so it’s chaotic and a lot of the house is inaccessible. Ordered a cappuccino and a bacon sandwich and was shocked at the price- £9.70! This cafe is always busy so obviously people are happy to pay what I would consider massively over inflated prices, of course I understand the cafe has increased bills to cover but I was genuinely surprised at how much they charged me, I checked the menu too and it wasn’t a mistake. Do cafes in your area charge this much- AIBU to be surprised? Im in a semi rural area in the south east.

Wetherspoons breakfast is around £5 including a sit down and a hot drink and a Greggs even less, if you have any available near you. That said I have just spent £19 on bubble and squeak and two hot drinks in an independent café this morning.

Bubble and squeak! What a classic!

Just looked at a local cafe menu
Toasted bacon sandwich £3
Cappuccino £2.95

Another bacon and egg £4.95. Couldn't load the drinks menu.

To be honest I rarely eat out now but for a proper day out I’m budgeting 50 for food if I want it I have it. Did buy a mug recommended on here to put coffee in.

It's simple. Everyone will end up with just Greggs, Maccies and Whetherspoons soon because only these large places can afford rising prices with minimum price rises.
Actually, crossout Whetherspoons since they are also shutting some brunches.
Maccies nad Greggs. With lots of automation

Well a cappuccino in Pret is £3.30 now. Given the price of bacon, another £6 for a sandwich doesn't seem way off the mark.

My local coffee shop has a lunchtime meal deal - £10 for a toastie and a hot or cold drink...

Local caf - £2.20 for coffee, £2.80 bacon sandwich

Yes, I can't justify paying those prices...

My nearest cafe is quite a posh one and a bacon bap is £3.00, cappuccino is £2.95 to sit in very nice surroundings.

I think it's to be expected in current climate sadly.

My mate owns a bar, it's also a live music venue, shows sport, and serves great food.

He recently told me their energy bills have quadrupled, the cost of alcohol has gone up and the cost of food is through the roof. He very nearly went under after coming out of Covid and the lockdowns. So I understand why prices are going up.
