To ask if you swear in conversation with your adult children?

Personally, my Mum hates swearing in general and says she'll never allow it in her house even when my sister is an adult (she's 14, I'm 21). But I've gone round friends' houses, etc. and seen them and their parents swear around each other like it's their normal thing to do.

I don't think either mindset is wrong really, but which do you prefer? Would you "tell off" your adult child if they swore in conversation with you?

I do. I grew up with military parents and the swearing rubbed off on me at a young age. So I swear a lot when talking to my DD even before she became a full adult 😂 She thinks it’s hilarious and she rarely swears.

I swear in every conversation I have. Unfortunately I have a total potty mouth

I swear in front of my parents. My mam does but my dad hates it when a woman swears even tho he swears like a sailor

Yes no need.

My parent and in-laws didn't swear, so we never swore in front of them. My DH and I are in our 60s, ACs early 40s, and we all swear in front of each other. NEVER in front of any children, though.

I didn't stop swearing when my children were born. Let alone as they grew up

Mine both were aware of my swearing as kids, but knew it wasn't appropriate in most situations. They were allowed a "swear pass" for exceptional circumstances (off-roading being the most commonly used one I think. They both enjoyed yelling "FAAAAAAARKIN' HELL" whilst nearly tipping over on a muddy hill.

We also as a family all adopted their 'custom swears' as children (still use them) such as "binkybonks" for "bit of a dickhead" and "poocustard" for "bugger/shit". Eg. "I don't like Nige at the petrol station, he's a proper binkybonks".

They both swear now when talking to me, but not that much, and both perfectly articulate in all situations, they also know when it's not appropriate to do so.

But it's horses for courses, I don't swear in front of my Nan (much) and we never swear in front of other people's children. Manners innit?

No I never heard my parents swear , have never used bad language towards husband or children The occasional FFS has slipped out but as an exclamation.
My children have never sworn in front of me and they are in their 20s.

BebbanburgIsMine · 10/08/2023 15:01

No, I don't swear in my life at all, never have and never will. My parents never swore either.

My adult children don't swear in conversation with me, and I didn't allow them to swear when they were children.

I just hate it, and to me even "bloody" is a swear word.

I only swear lightly in front of my mother, because she doesn't like it. Sulking, tantrums, all that shit (from her) perfectly fine, but swearing? Horrendous darling.

I swear like a trooper. My husband swears worse.

Our kids swear around us, but we never swear at each other, and if it gets over the top, I just have to say, and they tone it down. And vice versa.
