I know this is a bit of a cheek, but I'm curious to know, ok maybe to see where I fall to in the range of answers.
Are people generally on the lower side, higher side, in the middle and are you happy, trying to lose, trying to gain, counting calories or couldn't care less?

OP posts:
SnowyMouse · 06/02/2023 12:42

I'm 28, down from 37!

JaggySplinter · 06/02/2023 12:43

19-20

I'd ideally put on a bit of weight but have chronic illness that makes it hard.

TooSmallForTheMembrane · 06/02/2023 12:44

24 and a bit…

I look good this weight and if it wasn’t for the fact I don’t feel at fast, I’d be perfectly happy like this. As it stands, I’m currently trying to lose some weight to aid sporting performance. Slow and steady. I like cake so it’s never going to be a quick thing 😂 I just keep an eye on what’s going in vs. What’s going out.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 06/02/2023 12:47

21.4, I’ve lost about 15kg as I’d put on quite a bit of weight and I was in the overweight category. I’m 5ft 3 and pear shaped so don’t carry extra weight well.

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 06/02/2023 12:49

Another one of these?! Confused Why are some posters on here so obsessed with other peoples weight and body size?

Seasonofthewitch83 · 06/02/2023 12:49

swipe · 06/02/2023 12:34

BMI really isn't everything, it's only one metric and not even an accurate one at that for health...

Its also racist

i’m a size 16-18. Trying to lose weight but only to get me to a weight that gives me bmi of 27.5 which still puts me in the overweight range.
i don’t like the bmi calculation, what it suggests I should I weigh, I would look ridiculously thin.
I do an exercise class once a week and walk for an hour 4x a week plus all the usual running about. I’m fit and healthy.

RosetteNebula · 06/02/2023 12:54

Around 19

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 06/02/2023 12:58

30, thanks to menopause. I work out 4 days a week, and eat around 1200 calories a day, just hoping it drops off eventually

5128gap · 06/02/2023 12:58

Lentilweaver · 06/02/2023 12:23

@5128gap I eat very cleanly too- culturally whole food veggie from birth- but it's not working for me post 45 dammit:)

I struggled a lot in my 40s. But I'm one of the lucky few for whom the menopause has been very kind. I lost all the hormonal hunger and now need much less food. Which is a good thing considering the tiny amount a woman my age, lifestyle and height should be consuming. That was a real shock to me, as I'd always gone by 2000 calories a day, which it turns out is way too many, even when they're 'clean' ones.😔

Thislittlepiggy89 · 06/02/2023 12:58

Have you thought of doing yoga? People have been able to regain lost height from this as the muscles and spine get a good stretch.

Shouldweno2 · 06/02/2023 12:59

28.5

I have just less than 2 stone to lose to put me at 25, but aiming for nearer 2.5 stone to put me at 23.8.

Weight gain, in part, due to having a baby but also all the snacks I've eaten. I've lost nearly 1.5 stone so far.

DH and I trying to decide whether we try for another baby, but I've said it's off the cards unless I lose weight and get healthier/stronger.

My BMI was around 25.5 when I last got pregnant and carrying the weight by the end almost broke me. My knees were shot. I'm an older Mum and feel like if I got pregnant now, given the weight I'm at - the scaffolding would buckle under the weight! Until the last few years I've always been a healthy weight. I think my body really struggles being this size - like my muscles haven't caught up with the load!

SweetSenorita · 06/02/2023 13:00

23.3 and dropping. It's fine for off-season but needs to go down for my competitions.

SophiaLarsen · 06/02/2023 13:10

22.1 (5,3 and 56.7kg) I'd like to be 55kg.

reddwarfgeek · 06/02/2023 13:11

It's 23 at the moment.
18 months ago it dipped to 18.5. I was obsessively dieting then and thankfully stopped. Gained some weight in the last year! I'd like to loose half a stone and be around 22.

Landndialamrhf · 06/02/2023 13:17

my gp and the nhs website keep flagging that this is on the high side of healthy and I need to be careful not to gain. I think that’s very unhelpful that even ‘healthy’ range is still seen as a problem.
for reference I’m 5ft 8 and a size 10 is baggy on me, i work out several times a week and am generally active, so I certainly don’t feel like I’m in some danger zone.
i just feel like you can’t win.

comeon2023 · 06/02/2023 13:21

31, aiming to get it down to 29 or thereabouts in the next couple of months before starting TTC. Being in the obese category while pregnant last time led to lots of extra appointments which were just a stressful waste of time so hoping to avoid that this time round. Though now I'm geriatric lol so they'll probably just flag that as a risk instead.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 06/02/2023 13:23

My phone worked mine out yesterday. I am just under 25.

SlashBeef · 06/02/2023 13:25

40 but this time last year it was 56 so I'm on the right track 🙂

Bedbouncer · 06/02/2023 13:27

29 down from 48 in October 2021 - 99% through diet. I am still losing, but much more slowly, which is fine - I bought a load of clothes and want to get some wear out of them! Also, my waist to hip ratio is 0.7, which apparently means most of my excess weight is not visceral; this is also supported by body composition analysis, which says I have plenty of muscle & visceral fat in the healthy range. Basically I just have an enormous arse and thighs. Would still like to lose more because my knees are shot. I'm menopausal (52).

RipWheelersBeard · 06/02/2023 13:30

@SlashBeef that is so good! Do you mind me asking how you've done it?

Wanderingowl · 06/02/2023 13:30

BMI really isn't everything, it's only one metric and not even an accurate one at that for health...

It's actually an extremely good metric for overall health risk and the long-term endurance of your joints. The way in which it is not good is that it is far too broad as it has to account for all body shapes. Most people do not have 7 BMI points over which they remain at their healthiest weight, ie 19-25. I'm clearly underweight at 20, clearly overweight at 24. That's even with being very muscular. Without my muscle I'd be healthiest at 21. 22.5 is my current ideal. Other people are at their best in the 18-20 region, others at 23-25.

BMI is a very good starting point to get an idea if you are at a healthy weight. You can then add in factors like your exercise routine, diet and strength. But if you start adding in things like body shape, ie large breasts, you are distorting that, as that's already counted in. I went quite a long time, thinking my large breast size meant I wasn't over-weight when my BMI was 26, and that was nothing but me deluding myself.

Good physical health is pretty much the most accurate indicator of a long, healthy life. Yes you can get serious illnesses at any age, but the risk is higher the less physically healthy you are. Personally, I aim to not only make it well past 100, but I aim to be dancing right up until the very end. That requires maintaining my joints, muscles and bones as well as possible. I can't guarantee the long healthy old age I want as a lot is out of my hands. However, I can guarantee that it won't happen, because if I don't actively aim for it, it can't. So I'll live my life with that goal in mind. The best part is though, as someone who has been obese and someone who is now athletically fit and able to do all sorts of cool shit most people can't. Life is a whole fucktonne better this way. So it's not even a case of torturing myself to increase the likelihood of being a capable centenarian, it's a case of live an awesome active life now, with the bonus of a realistic possibility of being a capable centenarian.

spuddel · 06/02/2023 13:31

21.5 I go to the gym three times a week and swim. When I don't, it creeps up to 23 and I feel sluggish and unmotivated. Am 55

WineCap · 06/02/2023 13:31
  1. I'm about to start gaining weight those as I'm pregnant. I'm a size 8 and 5'7 with a slightly broader frame than average, so I think I carry it well.
