That confidence and absolute belief that she’s right and no one is wrong. It’s not a v female thing and I have to a tiny bit admire her for it. She’s and her party are knobs at the mo obviously,

DoubleShotEspresso · 06/02/2023 09:43

It is breathtakingly shameless, utterly oblivious to reality isn't it OP?

The thing that baffles me most here is this being labelled a "comeback"!?!

Surely a comeback follows precious success? of which she's had none

How/why are the papers buying into this?
Why are we seeing interviews between Nadine & Boris?
It's all senseless!

BarrelOfOtters · 06/02/2023 09:45

Someone said this thread is a bit sexist. I did think about that before posting - but you can't ignore her ridiculousness and the ridiculousness of a party in the dying days of power that thought making her PM was a good idea. I think Kwazi Kwarteng and Boris were both appalling bad choices to lead a country too....

OP posts:
BarrelOfOtters · 06/02/2023 09:45

But woman not having confidence is a genuine thing - see it all the time at work where men have a go at applying for jobs they aren't qualified for and woman hang back from jobs where they are.

OP posts:
ImAvingOops · 06/02/2023 09:48

Maybe people shouldn't be applying for jobs they can't do, going by the LT example. Maybe the problem is more male overconfidence rather than a lack of it in women?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/02/2023 10:00

@DoubleShotEspresso the press need something, so they can either report on the many and varied ways the Tories have wrecked the country or they can give us fluff pieces showing how deluded previous Tory PMs are.

Liz Truss is funny.😆

mogsrus · 06/02/2023 10:10

L T is funny, sadly with devastating consequences, she really brought the house down

"I don’t think she is thick"

She is a bit thick though - when she was Foreign Secretary, didn't she get the Baltic and Black seas mixed up and didn't know what regions were actually in Russia?
Geography's not my strong point but if I was Foreign Secretary I think I'd be inclined to learn. She is that unfortunate combination that we seem to get in this country of outstandingly arrogant and not too bright!

@Bagzzz this. She is thick, I'm sorry. I know that it doesn't make any sense, I know that you shouldn't be able to go to Oxford and become an MP and then somehow (briefly) become PM if you are this thick, but she is and she did. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Occam's Razor, innit?

newnamethanks · 06/02/2023 10:54

Those of us asking why? Note that the Tory Right, the frothing nutters like Liz - I was right! You ignorant morons - hate Sunak who has stolen the prize out of the hands of Bozo, Truss et al and will consistently undermine him until they can turf him out and replace him with another one of their clones. Jonathan Gullis for PM? God help us all. We have the most quiescent and politically ignorant electorate in Europe.

Plitvice · 06/02/2023 10:57

I can see she is already making good use of the (huge) ex-PMs expenses allowance which she had no qualms accepting despite her few days in Office.

Fuelled by caffeine:

“It does not surprise me that this is Truss’s drug. It is speed for people reluctant to break the law – find the dream and chase it to its end. Unexpected rise and rapid fall: coffee is a metaphor for her life. It makes you bold, aggressive and unable to hear. It is another anaesthetic, and another shell. She should have gone to where it is grown: the espresso at the coffee shop on the Blue Mountain in Jamaica made my eyeballs cold and my tongue shrivel. Racing from photoshoot with Union Jack umbrella and bicycle to coffee cup paints a life. Truss dreams deeply, and she dreams alone.”

Speaking personally, I gave up coffee 4 years ago after major surgery. I may not have the same artificial energy but life is a lot calmer and less anxious.

Teaandtoast3 · 06/02/2023 12:42

Thanks OP I laughed at your title. She’s definitely on something…

StarlightLady · 06/02/2023 13:07

Nah, you wouldn't have any friends.

Hawkins002 · 06/02/2023 18:58

@BarrelOfOtters for all we know she could be correct, unless we read the various intelligence services files then all we have is the medias narrative

tootiredtobother · 06/02/2023 19:01

if you read a broadsheet newspaper and the money pages, it appears she was not off the mark on everything hight tax is killing us all

SparkleBrows · 06/02/2023 19:10

I have a sneaking suspicion she was set up as someone to go in and do what core Tory voters wanted, just to prove it wouldn't work (and as a bonus make a lot of money for wealthy people in the know) thus paving the way for the current lot.

Could you please provide a link to anyone killed by high taxes?
Seems to me its actually Tory austerity that's killing people, more than 300,000 of them.

Taxes aren’t the devil.

the problem is that the tax burden falls too much on most ordinary folk and not enough on the wealth.

Liz Truss’s economics is based on a rich man’s myth. Show me a country where you get decent public services, low inequality and Uber low tax rates and I’ll shut up.

Yep coz she’s right and was wronged obviously so no shame or embarrassment. ( Same with Boris etc)

really could do with a smidgen of her attitude though, then again other lives matter so I wouldn’t be able to look myself in the mirror.

ClaudiusTheGod · 06/02/2023 21:29

I heard she’d had a complete emotional breakdown after stepping down as PM. Is this what counts as recovery?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/02/2023 21:46

I read somewhere after she resigned (it might even have been on here!) that Liz Truss is a great example of why you should sometimes listen to your imposter syndrome.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 06/02/2023 22:17

There's something about her that has always reminded me of a prissy teenager who has always had praise showered on her by her parents, and been wheeled out to play her grade 3 piano pieces to their friends. Never actually been told off, or argued with, so has never had to make a case for anything.

Nick Robinson did a really interesting documentary on her last year on Political Thinking, and the overwhelming conclusion was that she just surrounds herself with people who agree with her, and ignores/sacks anyone who doesn't. It definitely explains the rabbit in the headlights reaction whenever she's challenged on even the most minor of things, and also that godawful smugness every time she speaks. Either that, or she is dosed up to the eyeballs most of the time.

FlowerArranger · 06/02/2023 22:29

It's sad, more than anything.

That someone with the intellectual gravitas of a fruitfly was judged to be a suitable prime minister.

We have had plenty of useless PMs in the last 50 odd years (maybe more, but I'm not that old...), but she reset point zero.

And now we have Rish! He has that deer in the headlights look about him. Not exactly confidence inspiring...

lljkk · 06/02/2023 22:30

Thatcher also thought she was always right.

I'm sure I can think of some other big ego women. Can be a very female thing. Heaven knows how bossy a lot of MNers are.
