Would you give en-suite to a toddler or keep it for guests ?

4 bed house with 3 bathrooms upstairs. 2 en-suite and family bathroom. 1 en-suite is the master bedroom.

Would you give a 2 year old an en-suite now ? Or keep that room for guests and perhaps move the 2 year old into the en-suite when older ?

We have a lot of guests staying over.

No brainer- Guests!

Hmmmmmm. I would probably give the toddler the en-suite tbh, but I don’t get guests.

So perhaps giving them a normal room as a toddler and then when they hit 5-6 give them the en-suite.

LividNC · 05/02/2023 12:29

If you have guests quite often (more than a couple of days a month I suppose) then guests for now.

manicthursday · 05/02/2023 12:29

Guests without a doubt. I much prefer them not sharing our bathroom!

If there is only 1 other en-suite, I’d save it for guests.

Guests! Even if I only had guests once a year so it mostly sat unsuse I'd still give it to the guests. I can't even begin to imagine the chaoas a 2 year old with a ensuit would get up to!

Does the ensuite have a bath or a shower?
If just a shower its a bit wasted on a toddler.

But... are the alternative bedrooms big enough for all their paraphernalia (or you could do a bedroom and playroom for toddler)

This. No way would I allow a 2 year old unsupervised access to a bathroom. That’s prime throw stuff down the toilet age.

MonkeyMindAllOverAround · 05/02/2023 12:34

Guests of course! What’s the point of having three bathrooms to clean when you can do with 2?

Guests, swap rooms around when they are older (10+)

lifehappens12 · 05/02/2023 12:36

My toddler likes to play with water in the sink of my en-suite and open and close the doors. No way would he be given an en-suite in his room.

BelleSauvage9 · 05/02/2023 12:37

Definitely guests. And would probably move dc in there when they're roughly pre teen age

LucyFox · 05/02/2023 12:37

At that age I wouldn’t want unsupervised chaos in the bathroom! I would also consider whether you plan to have more children – better to have two children sharing the family bathroom than one having an ensuite & the other being resentful!

Shoogly · 05/02/2023 12:37

Guests. Better for guests, easier as a host and wouldn't want toddler to have such unchecked access to a bathroom. Might swap when they're a teenager.

Blinkingheckythump · 05/02/2023 12:39

Yeah no way would I give a toddler their own bathroom, that's hugely unsafe

Lozzybear · 05/02/2023 12:40

Guests. We moved into our current house when DCs were 2 and 5. Five bed house, two en suites plus house bathroom. The second bedroom with en suite is for guests and has come in very useful, particulary as PIL have got older and FIL has had some health issues. DCs are now 9 and 12 and are happy sharing the house bathroom. They are both boys though. I may have moved one of them by now if they were the opposite sex.

Mooloopoo · 05/02/2023 12:42

See, in the complete opposite. I would give the o suite to my toddler as it will be so quick to get them to the toilet when they’re toilet training. It also stops the upheaval of moving rooms when they’re older.

I would install a lock so they can’t have unsupervised access but once they were confident using the toilet alone, and I trusted them, I would let them have constant access. Just make sure dangerous items are kept away. You can also get locks for taps so they can’t use them if necessary.

Tangerinie · 05/02/2023 12:45

I'd give it to the toddler I think. Guests can use the family bathroom, you and toddler can use your ensuites, so you'll never have to share a bathroom with guests anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lifesyoungdream · 05/02/2023 12:46

Guests. My Dd got the guest room and en-suite when she came home from uni. It is mine now and I only give it up when we have guests.

TheGuv1982 · 05/02/2023 12:48

Guests. The child can have the room when they’re older.

Babsexxx · 05/02/2023 12:50

Think far too young for a en-suite to be honest what I’d they ran a bath or shower in the night etc? Drowned or flooded the house needs to be much older.
