AIBU to buy some La Mer

Does anyone buy La Mer? Did anyone buy it pre COL?

I have use La Mer skin care on and off for the last 30 odd years. I recently had a facial at one of their stands and the results were amazing!

I just can't justify the cost. Especially if one was to get the full skin regime. You'd be looking at 2000 pounds for a 3 months supply

If anyone has any just good dupes for La Mer please share x

I wouldn't bother. I have swapped my expensive moisturiser for nivea soft, because I could no longer justify the cost, and my skin is better.

Peridot1 · 04/02/2023 21:56

Apparently there is one ingredient different to Nivea. Not sure how true that is!

there is loads of nice effective more affordable skin care out there.

Woahtherehoney · 04/02/2023 21:57

Never used La Mer but I used to use Elemis and now use Nivea and my skin has never been better, so just another shout for Nivea!

Humptydumptyfellapart · 04/02/2023 22:00

Nivea soft is literally amazing

Every now and again I "treat" myself to something expensive, normally makes my skin dry/spotty/greasy etc

Nivea soft voter here

Lentilweaver · 04/02/2023 22:01

Prescription strength tret is better than any expensive cream, IMO. And dermatologists agree.

MontyK · 04/02/2023 22:04

I got some La Mer face cream for Christmas a couple of years ago - I was so excited.

Honestly, it was shit. I was dumbfounded that a tiny pot cost about £170! It felt like glue on my face.

I got some Clinique face jelly for Xmas this year - obviously cost way less but still pricey. Again, my face feels sticky after use.

I've tried all sorts over the years but I always come back to the Nivea in the white pot. It's great stuff. I've given up with fancy face creams now.

lionelewis · 04/02/2023 22:07

I think I'll try the Nivea! Thanks for responding :))

Astral face cream is wonderful stuff, v similar to Nivea.

MissMarpleofstmarymead · 04/02/2023 22:14

I can't remember how, I started using it but I've been using nivea for years now. I absolute love it.

Saying that I've always wanted to treat myself to La Mer but I've never seen any good feedback on it.

Toosensitiv · 04/02/2023 22:15

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Doesn't have anywhere near the price tag of La Mer but is and feels like a luxury product that I think works. You can use it under your moisturiser so could pair it with nivea.

Honestly don't bother. It's daylight robbery how much they charge and it feels bloody awful.

Woahtherehoney · 04/02/2023 22:18

Also just to say for Nivea, my Nan used that or Ponds for years. She died when she was 90 and had absolutely incredible skin so there’s definitely something about those ‘older’ creams that have meant they’ve stood the rest of time!

ThingsChristmasJumper · 04/02/2023 22:20

Aldi caviar day or night cream is basically the same thing but substantially cheaper.

The price does very much feel like day light robbery! Even if I was to save all my treat money, I'd feel so silly paying for it

Sadly, the times I have used it have made my skin feel the best its ever felt

Interesting. Never thought to Aldi would make good skin care

The highlight of my day is putting my Nivea night cream on before bed. I also use the Q10 day cream with SPF 30 at a very reasonable price. My skin is great.

MrsClatterbuck · 04/02/2023 22:32

I have started using Olay vitamin C cream which I am finding quite good that even Dh remarked that I was looking radiant!!

Bought in Sainsburys when on offer at half price which they seem to have regularly.

TerrysGotPeeves · 04/02/2023 22:32

Never had La Mer, but did have La Prairie. Honestly, it was barely just okay. Huge waste of money. My Nan had the most beautiful skin, and she just used soap and water followed by Ponds. So that's what I do now. Carbolic soap btw. And at the risk of sounding arrogant, I'm often told how lovely my skin is. Not sure if it's down to Nan's skincare regime or genes, but I definitely have her to thank for it.

Another76543 · 04/02/2023 22:32

I use it. I tried a sample pot after having skin issues for a few years and trying all sorts. I told myself I’d never pay that much as it couldn’t possibly make a difference and was one of those people who thought it was overpriced cheap cream. The difference overnight was very noticeable. Even my partner commented (not having been told I’d put it on). I started using it regularly. Over the years, I’ve tried lots of different creams but nothing has ever come close (cheaper and more expensive brands). Everyone’s skin is different though so it won’t suit everyone. I don’t use the full range though (just the face cleanser, cream and the concentrate now and again).

MrsClatterbuck · 04/02/2023 22:33

I like the Okay as it is very light. Find the Nivea too heavy for me.

Have just bought the rejeuvalate one that's on here, wish had tried the la mer dupe!

Thedogscollar · 04/02/2023 22:38

Joanna Lumley swears by Astral and look at her beautiful skin. It's been on sale since the 1950's so must be doing something right.

UWhatNow · 04/02/2023 22:41

Aldi Caviar is meant to be a dupe for La Prairie (so I heard)
Astral is meant to be the La Mer equivalent (again so I heard).

I wonder if La Mer just buy fancy pots and scoop Astral into them under the cover of darkness and sell them to idiots for hundreds of pounds a jar? Women’s insecurity - a multi million dollar industry!
