Or at least be very careful about it.

I had someone message me a few months ago, asking to buy a big baby item.

I said okay, and he said he would send someone on his behalf to collect. Cash to be paid on collection. The Man arrived and I helped him load the item into his van. He then said he wasn't paying, as he felt the item didn't match the description

I was really confused because I'd just helped him load it on! And he seemed happy with it. He stood there watching me explain why he needed to pay me and then just calmly, face not even showing much sign of pending attack, punched me in the stomach and drove off

The police tracked the van but the number plates were stolen and not traceable to this man. He has been seen on footage of a few neighbour's Ring cameras but that's it.

Gone. I was pregnant at the time.

Please, if selling be careful or have a man with you when selling big Sad

I don’t have any menfolk handy so having a man here isn’t an option for me.

I sold some shelves a few years back, the bloke who picked them up was very chatty and friendly, and then proceeded to low key harass me for years through fb because he wanted a shag. Finally got the hint. Oh, and he was married, shelves were for their young daughter’s room.

Who would load an item into a buyers van without being paid first? I am dubious that this tale is true. If it is you need to grow up. Payment first.

I can imagine many weirdos love these sites. So sorry about your experience and I hope you are all okay. Too many crazies out nowadays. I don’t know if it is just me but after the pandemic people seem more aggressive. So I stopped using these kind of sites.

TIL there are people who think if you take the money first, it will keep you safe from harassment 🙄

Gosh, OP, what a shock, I'm so sorry! Hope you and baby are okay! ❤

I sell antique and vintage furniture on a semi-regular basis to make some money on the side and idulge my furniture addiction without cluttering up our house. Most of my pieces go between £300 and £1500. My DH sometimes sells expensive tech like top-range graphics cards, high-spec laptops, fancy hifi stuff and high-end cycling gear.
It's always very obvious that certain item categories attract a lot more dodgy characters than others. The furniture and cycling stuff buyers tend to be polite intellectual / artsy / hipster types, most are lovely and I've never had any buyers that have made me feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
With expensive tech, there's usually a fair number of scammers messaging and you have to think a lot more carefully about who you want to give your home address to. Thankfully, we've never had anyone threating us or trying to rip us off at our door, but we always make sure we're both at home when selling the kind of items that tend to attract criminals.

That’s horrendous.

I took my friend and her boyfriend to look over a car at a second hand car lot. The man I took with me gave it a good check over and haggled the price for me.

He offered to come back when I came to pick up the car. I says I was ok. More fool me.

I waited an hour from the salesman to turn up. I signed my car over in part exchange with his buddy standing filling the only doorway arms folded staring at me. He then said the price had gone up by £300.

He already had my car by then and I couldn’t get out so had no choice. Fucker.

What does this have to do with whether you are a man or woman?

Because the man in question probably wouldn’t have punched another man in the stomach and ran away in order to get away with the theft.
