Facebook marketplace scam?

AutisticLegoLover · 04/02/2023 19:38

I am selling something on Facebook. It's less than £100. A lady has contacted me to say she will send a GLS carrier with the cash to collect the item. I have never heard of this. She doesn't appear to be on the marketplace groups so I'm confused. I've been er heard of a GLS carrier for a start or for someone to accept an item without viewing it themselves so I'm assuming this is a scam?

Definitely a scam

Mysmallgarden · 04/02/2023 19:39

Yes, a scam.

MrNook · 04/02/2023 19:39

Common scam

WeCome1 · 04/02/2023 19:39

Yes, a scam. There will be some thing that you need to pay insurance or something, and then you’re paying through a dodgy link.

BMW6 · 04/02/2023 19:40

Scam.

Gawpygertie · 04/02/2023 19:40

Yes. It's a scam.

Don't engage.
Block.

youshouldnthaveasked · 04/02/2023 19:40

Yes absolutely a scam. I’ve had this a few times and pretend to go along with it giving fake name, email etc.

They say the will send a courier with cash if you can pay an insurance fee for the courier and then you will receive this insurance fee with the cash for the item.

which is of course false

AutisticLegoLover · 04/02/2023 19:40

Thought so. Thank you.

Be careful. A gentleman messaged me a few months ago to say he wanted to buy my cot and would arrange for someone to collect in his behalf and hand me cash

The man that came to collect put it in the van and then said he wasn't paying as he didn't think it was as described. I said okay, please just unload it then. He punched me in the stomach and then drove off

Number plates when tracked were stolen. I was pregnant at the time

Please be careful

gamerchick · 04/02/2023 19:42

It's quite an old scam. They'll ask you to pay an insurance fee which they'll put in the envelope. Play with them if you want so you can see it play out in real time or just block.

Someone else has made an offer now. She has an actual profile with comments from various family and friends, not just a profile picture. She's local. I feel unnerved by the scammer and overly cautious. Is it best to accept cash or bank transfer?

Cash on collection

youshouldnthaveasked · 04/02/2023 22:08

I’ve always done cash on collection.

Yes, a scam.

Happened today. Feel sorry for the Van company as scammers using there name by scamming sale items on market place.
the other scam is to use PayPal but they never turn up so no doubt a scan somewhere there as well.

I’ve always done cash on collection.

I did then at the last minute they changed their terms naming the company who would bring cash but we would have to pay the insurance that would be enclosed in cash envelope. Said they had no immediate cash to pay as they were working next day. Obvious were not in U.K.
