To park on my drive out of pettiness?

Next door neighbour has recently started getting large amounts of parcels delivered. They have their own drive, and there’s loads of on street parking, but they’ve started parking on my drive to unload their van. I don’t usually park on my drive during the day, but it’s really bugging me that they haven’t asked, and keep parking on my drive, blocking my garage, without asking for permission. Last week I tried to pull onto the drive after the school run and they were there unloading the van. They smiled and said they’d only be a few more minutes, and then got back to work. It was obvious I wasn’t pleased, but I was blocking the road so had to drive around the block and by the time I returned they’d gone again. I’m not comfortable with confrontation, so I’ve started parking on my own drive, literally just to block them from doing it. Am I just being petty? Should I let them park there since I don’t really need to use it during the day?

Depends how often they're doing it. If it's just for a few minutes at a time to unload when I was out or not parked there it would piss me off but not majorly. It's cheeky of them but unloading pallets etc you can't really drag stuff in from the road. If they were parking there for hours at a time treating it as extension of their drive then yes it would annoy me. If they've got multiple deliveries and cars everywhere I would wonder if they're running a business from home. What was on the pallets? If it's building stuff are they doing something temporarily like doing up the house?

MichaelKeaton · 03/02/2023 23:28

No. It’s not petty to park on your own drive. Nor is it an act of aggression or confrontation. Park there so the twats you live next to can’t.

Very few people are comfortable with confrontation, including your neighbours. Wait till they do it again (they will) and tell them to please move. They will give you a naughty boy grin n carry on, then you say loudly Now. 9/10 they'll move.
They know they're in the wrong and they're taking advantage of your good nature.
You'll only need to do it once and then smile the next day as if nothing had happened.

AlwaysLatte · 03/02/2023 23:31

I would just politely say that I'd rather they didn't park on the drive as you need access at all times. They'll probably stop, but if not put gates up.

allthemissingfucks · 03/02/2023 23:32

But you're not being petty.

If you genuinely feel too intimidated by your neighbours that you can't speak to them about their hugely CF-ery (although without a diagram this can't be verified) then you need to park on your own drive all the time.

You don't need permission, it's YOUR drive!

Anactor · 03/02/2023 23:33

BadClown · 03/02/2023 23:06

They have multiple cars, so their drive is blocked by their own cars. They park on mine so they can unload their own pallets, it’s not delivery drivers

@flapjackfairy 😂

They do not own your drive, they do not have permission to use your drive, they are trespassing on your drive. Basically, your neighbours are being CF. They’re trespassing, simply because they can’t be arsed to move their own vehicles before a delivery.

Park your car on your own driveway. Or get some bollards.

Deathbyfluffy · 03/02/2023 23:36

Badger1970 · 03/02/2023 22:05

Are they running a business from their home if they're getting lots of deliveries?

Report them to the council.

For what? It’s not illegal to run a business from your home

Tiani4 · 03/02/2023 23:36

Omg park on your own drive
Don't ask for permission and put a gate in if you're not regularly using your own drive or bollard or something

Never let others park in your drive unless you invite them

Your NDN are toss*rs telling delivery people to park on your property

I'd be "petty" as hell as it's my property!!!

Unless I told neighbours it was ok bc if I invite that's different

billy1966 · 03/02/2023 23:39

God love you OP that parking on your own drive causes you such conflict.

You live next to utter scum.

Ring the police if they give you any grief for parking on your property.

Park there EVERY day .

Jux · 03/02/2023 23:40

Block them in. Say airily as you hurry to your door "oh I won't be long, just knock if you need me to move". When they knock, take your time, "coming! Won't be long! Nearly there" etc

Moveoverdarlin · 03/02/2023 23:42

Are you being petty by parking on your OWN drive? Seriously? Er, course you’re not. Man up.

Being petty would be parking on THEIR drive.

If you don’t want any kind of conversation or confrontation, then carry on doing what you’re doing and park there. It’s yours, not theirs.

Justmeandthedog1 · 03/02/2023 23:44

BadClown · 03/02/2023 22:18

I know I’m allowed to park there, my question is if it’s being petty if I choose to? I don’t usually use the drive during the day, and only want to because they’re using it without my permission?

No you’re not being petty.
Theyre using your drive to unload a van. Keep on allowing it and they’ll take it as ok.

CJsGoldfish · 03/02/2023 23:50

What does it matter why you choose to park on your own drive? It's your drive. You can do what you like with it. You don't need to ask anyone 🤷‍♀️

Giggorata · 03/02/2023 23:52

This is possibly the thin end of the wedge, and if you accept them parking on your drive just to unload, it will escalate to just overnight, or Auntie Jo's car parked there just for the weekend visit, then a pile of bricks just for a few weeks while we have building work done… and so on.
I think you should habitually park there.
And get a gate or bollard.
And block them in every time they are on your drive, sail into the house and take your time before answering their knock. “Oh sorry, I was in the bath”.

Tiani4 · 03/02/2023 23:55

It's a parking thread and OP has not done a diagram yet ..

Anyone would think she doesn't know the parking thread rules 🤷‍♀️😮😬

Canthave2manycats · 03/02/2023 23:58

Just park on your own drive! The CFers can manage their deliveries however the hell they want!

Mydogatemypurse · 04/02/2023 00:08

They are out of order. Its your drive. Hire a permanent bouncy castle and leave it there

ChiefPearlClutcher · 04/02/2023 00:17

Rent your driveway out during working hours.
Let them know you’re doing this so they can’t park there in case a paying customer turns up. Or they can rent it!

ButterCrackers · 04/02/2023 00:37

Put a note through their door saying do not park on my drive, signed your house number.
Is there a planter you could place that would be too heavy for them to move but ok for you to use your own driveway?

MermaidMummy06 · 04/02/2023 00:43

I actually think parking on your own driveway is a solution, not petty.

It asserts your property rights without confrontation and they can't say anything.

A bollard says bugger off & should be used if you're coming home to find they've charted your movements to park in your driveway when you go out. If they complain say you need access to your driveway all the time.

PeanutButterSmoothie · 04/02/2023 00:47

Fuck the cheeky bastards and park on your drive.

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/02/2023 00:49

Agree with ChiefPearlClutcher - can you rent out your drive ?

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/02/2023 01:24

Hullabalooza · 03/02/2023 21:53

I’d be parking on the drive without a second thought. Not okay for them to do that.

Same here.

I found out that next door was cutting across the lower half of my driveway to save themselves moving their multiple cars in and out.

I now park on the lower half of my drive.

BadClown · 04/02/2023 08:40

Ok so this is the worst drawing ever! Blue car is their car on their drive, red van is them on my drive.
