To park on my drive out of pettiness?

Next door neighbour has recently started getting large amounts of parcels delivered. They have their own drive, and there’s loads of on street parking, but they’ve started parking on my drive to unload their van. I don’t usually park on my drive during the day, but it’s really bugging me that they haven’t asked, and keep parking on my drive, blocking my garage, without asking for permission. Last week I tried to pull onto the drive after the school run and they were there unloading the van. They smiled and said they’d only be a few more minutes, and then got back to work. It was obvious I wasn’t pleased, but I was blocking the road so had to drive around the block and by the time I returned they’d gone again. I’m not comfortable with confrontation, so I’ve started parking on my own drive, literally just to block them from doing it. Am I just being petty? Should I let them park there since I don’t really need to use it during the day?

Why aren't you parking in your drive? That's what it's there for.

goingback · 03/02/2023 22:44

you have witnessed them shout at people who block driveways? then they use yours , they sound bonkers and the situation needs addressing. Sorry OP but you will either have to just tell them NO, get some kind of bollard or park your car there all the time you are home.

BlueHeelers · 03/02/2023 22:46

No, you’re not being petty. It’s your drive.

ozymandiusking · 03/02/2023 22:50

I'm sorry if I have missed the answer to this, but why don't they park on their own drive? Foe Gods sake just park on your drive.

flapjackfairy · 03/02/2023 22:50

@BadClown
Of course you are being unreasonable parking on your drive.
You should be parking on their drive to really wind them up !

Zooeyzo · 03/02/2023 22:52

Why do they use your drive? Is it more convenient?
Park on your drive or block it with your car. Neither is petty.

jazzybelle · 03/02/2023 22:54

Has there been any reaction from them now you park on your drive?

Kangarude · 03/02/2023 22:55

Why does them having lots of parcels delivered mean the neighbours have to park on your drive? And it's YOUR drive. Why do you have to ask on the internet if you can park on it? Confused

Cherrysoup · 03/02/2023 23:02

Park on your own drive. If the neighbour continues to use it, pull up, wait, tell them it’s inconvenient.

mumda · 03/02/2023 23:04

Find someone who needs their car parking on a drive way for a month and continue to park your own car where you prefer.

I would also love to know why them having lots of parcels means they need to use your drive, but just quoting this because I love @Kangarude username.

BadClown · 03/02/2023 23:06

They have multiple cars, so their drive is blocked by their own cars. They park on mine so they can unload their own pallets, it’s not delivery drivers

@flapjackfairy 😂

Bluebellbike · 03/02/2023 23:06

Surely it is easier for them to unload their van in their own drive? What advantage is it to do it on yours?
Doesn't make sense.

Zodfa · 03/02/2023 23:07

If parking on your drive is too much bother you can always block it off with a plant pot or something.

Zonder · 03/02/2023 23:11

Definitely park on your own drive. Consistent use by the neighbours can give them adverse possession rights if it happens for long enough.

starfishmummy · 03/02/2023 23:15

Why has no one mentioned Penguin bollards yet

Kangarude · 03/02/2023 23:16

Thank you @WhatTheForkNow Grin

ZeilanBlueSky · 03/02/2023 23:17

It's your drive, not theirs, so it's not being petty to park there.

They are treating your drive like an extension of their property. Time to stop that.

WandaWonder · 03/02/2023 23:21

BadClown · 03/02/2023 22:18

I know I’m allowed to park there, my question is if it’s being petty if I choose to? I don’t usually use the drive during the day, and only want to because they’re using it without my permission?

Does it matter? It is your drive!

It is not complicated, if you want to park there do so

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/02/2023 23:22

And next time you pull up and they’re on your driveway, just park behind them. If they say anything just tell them you’ll move when they’re finished, no problem. Then take your time about it. And then put your car on your driveway. Cheeky twats.

PriamFarrl · 03/02/2023 23:22

I see. So they park on your drive at the front where access on foot is easier but they can’t stop on the road. You park at the back because it’s easy on street parking.

Personally I’d take to leaving my car on the drive until they get the message.

RobinStrike · 03/02/2023 23:25

Parking bollard. Your insurance company would approve, if they ask why you've installed one and you want to avoid confrontation, just state insurance company recommended it

RobinStrike · 03/02/2023 23:26

When you park at night your car will be safer too

GandTtwice · 03/02/2023 23:28

Are your neighbours running a business from home? Is that why are they suddenly getting so many parcels delivered? This might be something they need planning permission for.
But to answer your question YANBU to park on your own drive at anytime you choose - it's your drive

Jellybean23 · 03/02/2023 23:28

Why don't they unload at the back of their house? Park on your own drive, don't think twice about it.
