Teething poops.

I always thought teething and looser, gross nappies went hand in hand. Currently going through it with my 10 month old as she cuts another tooth and has had much looser and stinkier nappies for about two days. However I've seen on here and online that this isn't actually a thing and the two things are unrelated.

I've experienced it with both of my dc to varying degrees. Not with every tooth but certainly with some. Have you? Or is it true that it's not related?

Yes I believe so. They release a lot more saliva when teething which they swallow. It is quite acidic hence the loose poos. Mine always get nappy rash when teething too.

troppibambini6 · 03/02/2023 10:16

6 kids here and absolutely yes.
They all had stinky runny poos when teething they used to smell like gone off milk. Also really sore bums too presumably from the horrible poos.
Dh used to gag form the smell and he's pretty stoic about poos and sick normally.

Maryandherlamb · 03/02/2023 10:17

Yes, and very sore bottoms. My little ones, especially my second, gets horrendous nappy rash when she's teething. I have to cake her in sudocrem.

MajorCarolDanvers · 03/02/2023 10:18

Every single tooth with both of mine = dodgy nappies.

borisescomb · 03/02/2023 10:19

She's also really gone off her milk and I'm having to really try to get fluids down her. Rosy cheeks and cold like symptoms too.

The 'experts' will say that there is no such thing as teething diarrhoea.
There is. I look after children and I know there is. My own two kids had teething poo- I knew exactly when teeth were coming through by their nappies!

MaverickSnoopy · 03/02/2023 13:28

There absolutely is but the other thing to remember is that when they're teething they put everything in their mouths and pick up germs more easily, so while it's mostly likely teething, it can sometimes be a bug, especially if accompanied by other symptoms.

Bonjovispjs · 03/02/2023 14:27

It's definitely a thing.

WaddleAway · 03/02/2023 14:28

Never had it with my 3.

Abasnada · 03/02/2023 14:29

Yup drooling, red cheeks, chewing, dodgy nappies, not feeding / sleeping well and sometimes a low grade fever are al symptoms I’ve seen.

Sartre · 03/02/2023 14:32

Yes, definitely and usually nappy rash too.

inloveandmarried · 03/02/2023 18:57

Yes. Evil bottoms when teething. I learnt fast to barrier them up whenever they were cutting a tooth. It was like acid, stripped the skin if in contact.
