To hand in my notice?

I am looking to change jobs, but current job requires 8 weeks notice. Would this be detrimental to me finding another job? If so, should I hand my notice in and then start looking? Feel a bit trapped and unsure what to do! Thanks

I'm on a three month notice period and this is pretty standard for my industry. I'd never hand my notice in without another job.

The right employer will wait for you. What industry do you work in?

No, I regularly employed people with 3 or 6 months notice period.

If it is the right person for the job, a bit of a wait is nothing.

This is common in the nhs and wouldn't stop them employing people. A Job advert goes out in January for example then interviewing in February, new starter often then doesn't start until April or May.

I'd never give up a job without having something else lined up. I think you'd be daft to do so but it depends how much you rely on your wages and if you could afford to be out of work for a while?
