Just this. Every day negativity. No one is happy with life or working conditions. The country is at an all time low. Living standards getting worse by the day people getting poorer. I know we are not in poverty like some countries but honestly can’t see us ever returning to decent living standards unless you’re the few top percent earners. Tell me I’m being dramatic perhaps I am but can’t see much of a way back from this .

Obviously if you have a well paid job, private health, kids in independent school (or finished school) then of course life is great, especially if you live in a decent part of London.

Approx just 25% will vote Tory at the next GE and most people now believe Brexit to be a mistake, so those who say MN doesn't reflect RL really mean "MN doesn't reflect my privileged POV"

We are not predicted to back at pre pandemic levels of growth until 2026, all our major competitors are already there (BOE forecast today)

As for France, i spend weeks there at a time, they have nothing like the same issues as we do, inflation is barely 6% for starters & AE and Ambulance wait times are what we can only dream off.

yes I do want a range of answers on here not just mn typical

It’s not about just privilege, but a mix. Posters need to get better at reading posts and not getting upset that they are different to theirs, rather than react because someone isn’t unhappy.

most people now believe Brexit to be a mistake

On this though I do wonder why Labour don’t see votes in switching back if voters would vote for it. I’d say Tory but unlikely they’d switch.

@Clavinova i don’t think looking at 2009 helps people look forward somehow?! And even then I think you know most people have decided the current Tory government is finito.. and you do realise that France is very big and varied..?? Like the UK… doesn’t change the fact that I have great access to my GP; and I live in a populated urban area. When I lived in London and couldn’t get an appointment..

@MarshaMelrose

funny how you and @MarshaBradyo are similar users.. troll/bot much!

safeplanet · 02/02/2023 19:50

@4thonthe4th what was so good about it? I think we should have more physio like in France

GPTec1 · 02/02/2023 19:52

I think MN is reflecting the mood of the country, basically fallen out of love with the Tories and to a lesser extent, Brexit, thats good isn't it?

I suspect that Labour do not want the next GE to be about Brexit again, bare in mind single market membership is not possible, the EU don't want it nor are we about to have aother referendum, so Labours position is a good one, closer ties, pay in to join Horizon and other scientific & educational programs.

On the economy, we ve had 3 years of not paying our EU "membership fee" that should be around £55 billion...(according to the Boris bus) or a more realistic £36 billion, where has it all gone/going? its an on going saving, each and every year.

🙄 Are you a troll or bot? You certainly seem like one..

You do realise people live different lives to you.

I’m glad the other poster with the great name posts, and since they tend to be better posts to read I don’t care it’s similar to mine

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2023 19:56

Is this confirmed? Where have you seen this

@4thonthe4th what was so good about it? I think we should have more physio like in France

I just felt very well cared for and supported and have seen some stories online which seem to differ from my post natal experiences.
My midwife came out every 2 days to check my stitches , as well as me and baby in general and I could call her if I had any concerns. DS1 had trouble feeding so got a same day appointment at the maternity hospital then follow up by the breast feeding support team; one visit at home the day after the referral was made during which I was given her number if I needed additional visits or even just to call up and ask advise.
Home visits until discharge, which I’m aware is different in other trusts and new mums have to go to see the midwife in the community.
I also felt my care following the op whilst in hospital was good. Very attentive staff, lots of help on hand if required etc.
Some of the things I hear from others or see online seem very different from my experience.

I’ve never had any need for any physio but I’ve never had a vaginal birth so don’t know whether that’s a requirements after a VB.

Why do Labour politicians keep harping back to 2010?!
You don't even live in the UK now - you should be looking forward...

and you do realise that France is very big and varied..??

Of course -
Some 9,000 small towns, accounting for 8 percent of the total population, lack general practitioners in what has been termed a growing "medical desertification".

Oblomov22 · 02/02/2023 20:09

It's depressing. He whole atmosphere is very negative.

On the economy, we ve had 3 years of not paying our EU "membership fee"

We paid full contributions in 2020 during the transition year - we still had full access to the single market and EU projects/programmes in 2020 (but Covid!). Then the Brexit Divorce bill - e.g. funding for projects already committed to (including UK projects in 2021/2022/2023) plus pension liability for EU officials...

safeplanet · 02/02/2023 21:03

@4thonthe4th it's physio to help re strengthen the pelvic floor

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 21:10

@MarshaBradyo on the votes front- I think labour wouldnt commit to it because of the mainstream press which is predominantly right wing making up all the usual 'stolen our Brexit' kind of bollocks again. I think if they get in then closer unions will be forged but called something different and we would end up with similar to Norway. Personally I think its all rather pointless for very little advantages to most people and those that voted based on immigration - well they are mad- there really is mass immigration going on- I see it in our business centre which hosts visa processing- it's just not single , young EU people though, not even Americans, Australians etc , and it's large families of people.

If you are comfortably off and live somewhere that's a bit 'naice' and your own life is humming along and you have cash in the bank and savings, it's easy to feel all is reasonably well with the world. A quick visit to A&E a few months ago at Wexham park in Slough though , which covers a huge commuter area , convinced me there's a big issue, along with several people I know(good people , decent earners) struggling to rent modest homes despite a 100% tip top record. Not just the rent levels but the lack of options is a real issue.

The UK has a population of 7 times Sweden whilst being about half the size of it.

May have a little to do with it.

Norway has a population of 6 million but is a sovereign economy with one of the highest standards of living. Ranked financially as the least likely to fail. Sweden right next door. Seems someone did a lot more with a lot less

MarshaMelrose · 02/02/2023 21:22

MacDoodleofredbrookcounty · 02/02/2023 18:52

Do you mean England or the UK?

No wonder so many Welsh and Scots want to go their own way.

Incidentally, having lived in England, I can confirm it's a pretty shitty place to live.

I mean exactly what I say.
MN love to say that the United Kingdom (as in Scotland, Wales, N Ireland and England) is on its knees. They love to say there is no more shit place to live than England. (They think Scotland, Wales and N Ireland are fantastic places to live.)

Just because you are ignorant to mix the UK and England up, don't judge everyone else the same.

Living in England, I absolutely love the quality of my life here. I've also lived in Wales and had a home in Scotland. I thought they were beautiful places too. But then I'm not a nasty person so maybe that's why I'm treated well and have a good life wherever I go.

😂😂😂 I guess two different people are allowed to have outlandish thoughts like loving living in the UK and thinking the French strike a lot - if that is indeed what MarshaBradyo thinks. If you think we're trolls, report us.

But if you can't bear the thought someone thinks differently to you, a growing trend on SM, and it soothes you to think we must be bots or trolls, then you do what you have to put yourself in a safe place. 🙄

I live in france and the healthcare is outstanding. I can get a same day appointment for the doctors and can see a specialist within a week or two. Prices are stable (food) and our energy prices have been capped so I'd disagree with your post that Europe is in the same state as the UK.

I'm in Spain and have had the same experience. It's not perfect but it's a lot better than the UK at the moment.

Our experience of hospitals in Spain is one of the reasons we want to move there. (We already have residency but live in the UK atm)

We already pay for insurance as we are UK citizens but I always feel much safer in Spain than I do in the UK.

And as an aside, apparently it’s statistically the safest country for women to live in.

Orangepolentacake · 02/02/2023 23:09

Tinkerbyebye · 02/02/2023 14:56

We are no worse than any other country, it’s just we linked to think we are

i have access to my GP, hospital appointments coming though ok, we had to call an ambulance recently for a family member, arrived quickly, hospital not overwhelmed and we were seen quickly, schools in my area not on strike , plenty of food in the shops

it maybe different in other areas, but certainly not all
.yes more can be done to help, but it’s not as bad as people are makingout

now wait to be told off by rabid Tory hating mumsnetters

🙄Do you believe something can exist/be true even when it‘s not happening to you personally?

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/02/2023 23:28

It is shit and its not going to recover for some time.

For 13 years we've had a Conservative government that had plenty of bright ideasHmm to win them elections, but no plans for growth. They still don't have a plan for growth and are now an impediment to it.

We are a G7 nation but we won't be for long because the Tories broke the UK.

It is the same all over Europe, strikes everywhere, healthcare failing etc.

They had a general strike in France earlier this week, never gets mentioned here in the UK as they like to pretend we are the only ones suffering (so they can blame brexit).

News works on the basis of supply and demand. No news on the UK and you will see more about strikes etc in France. Lots of UK news and you won't. Brexit is absolutely a huge factor in why we are in the current recession. To think otherwise is extremely naive and blinkered! We have literally cut ourselves off!
Yes energy prices etc. Have risen in mainland Europe too but Most of Europe has Government owned utilities so its controlled. The EU has joint buying power, we do not. Its quite simple, Britain screwed itself.
