The Company I currently work for are going through a takeover and my Manager has strongly hinted that our office will close and we will be made redundant. I've only been there for 3 months!

So, my question. At today's interview how do I explain this as I don't want to leak confidential information from my current employer (both are local companies) and I don't want them to think I leak confidential information from work places either as that won't look good! It's only hearsay, we haven't officially been told the office will close but I'm pretty sure it will.

Should I say its potentially going to close and I'm erring on the side of caution by leaving?

Do I not mention the potential closure at all, but then how do I explain leaving after 3 months?

Help!

I'd be honest but make sure you tell them that it's awkward for you to have to act on a strong rumour and to say this at interview, but that you feel you need need to explain as your tenure is so short.

All interview conversations should be confidential anyway.

If there are rumours they will likely get out some other way anyway.

You are concerned about job security and would like to make a move somewhere with more long-term certainty.

You are not giving away anything confidential but they can read between the lines.

How about 'given the take over there is some uncertainty in my current workplace' and then some further comments about looking for a long term role and stability. That you want to commit to a role for the longer term.

Good luck

“My current workplace is going through a takeover and that’s creating a lot of uncertainty and change at employee level. I’m looking for an organisation with stability where I can focus on building a long term career. For example if I worked at your company then in 5 years I’d hope to have progressed to xyz.”
