Crocheting - where do you put your stitch marker?

I always seem to have too many stiches when crocheting in the round. Aibu to put the stitch marker in the last stitch? Do i count it as the first or lsst stitch?

I would usually put it in the first stitch, but I don't think it matters so long as you know which stitch it's in.

It doesn’t really matter as long as you know which stitch it’s in, and do that consistently throughout your project.

If crocheting in the round, like in amigurumi, I have the stitch marker attached to the first stitch. I had to have a bit of a think about that as have been knitting a lot more than crochet recently and you leave the markers on the needles!

Mine goes in the first stitch too. I just use a scrap piece of contrasting coloured yarn and loop it over after the final stitch of the previous round, then when I do my first stitch, the marker is 'in' the stitch.

I don't fully understand the question but I think this needs to be moved to the 'Sex' topic.

Thanks.

In put mine in the 1st stitch, but you could put it in the last as long as you know which you did when you pick it up again3 years later

If its a particularly difficult pattern I put one in the first and the last.

Crocheting in the round I run a different colour yarn up at the first stitch and just pull it out at the end, easier than a stitch marker to keep accurate

I put mine in the last stitch.
If the pattern is like
Sc x 10, Inc x repeat around
I'll put an extra stitch marker in the one after the increase and move it on to the next increase when I get there, so that I don't have to keep counting.

Merryoldgoat · 01/02/2023 16:35

It depends on your pattern. In some the first stitch counts and some it doesn’t.

Generally I put mine in the first stitch and the count at the end of each row/round.

You are either increasing too frequently or not counting properly and therefore increasing by accident.

Blossomandbee · 01/02/2023 16:36

It usually goes in the first stitch so you know when you've completed the round.
As a pp has said a scrap of yarn in a different colour can be used as a running stitch marker and I find this much easier.
