I can clean better than my clean?

Recently got a new cleaner, she's been three times now and she's so lovely bless her. My only issue is, she doesn't appear to dust everything? She has 3 hours to clean a 2 bed house, tiny kitchen and two baths rooms, one of the bathrooms gets used maybe twice a year so it's pretty much brand new and not dusty as we leave the door shut. I noticed she doesn't bother dusting the towel rails or the toilet brush and bin (stainless steel) and they are covered in dust. She also doesn't clean some of the skirting boards. I'm a very clean and tidy person in general, when she comes to the house she always says it doesn't even seem to need a clean. I know I shouldn't pick but I can get the entire house clean at a very high standard myself in 3 hours. Also she doesn't wipe down the taps etc after cleaning them.

AIBU and expecting too much or are lots of cleaners just not that thorough?

Just ask her politely to do it and see what she says.

You either need to ask her to do it , find another cleaner or do it yourself

Cherrysherbet · 01/02/2023 15:27

Do it yourself then. If it only takes you 3hrs per week, surely you can manage that?

You could either talk to her about it or hope that she reads this post and realises it's about her and changes her cleaning as a result.🤞

I’ve never found a cleaner does things as thoroughly as I’d like… suggesting I’m unrealistic in my expectations. If I do 3 hours cleaning I go for it and am pretty knackered afterwards, it’s not fair to expect someone to work to that level as it could be their job that they’re doing all day every day.

I’d say 3 hours to clean a 2 bedroom place is going some if you’re expecting things like skirtings done every week. My cleaner does 3 hours. Always cleans a large kitchen diner, standard bathroom, small toilet. Then a quick hoover in other downstairs rooms and a deeper clean of 1 room or other job like changing beds - no way could she do it all.

I relax about it more than I used to. is it better than before she’s been? Yes. Can I afford it? Yes. Can and do I direct her to do particular jobs that don’t need doing every week but do need doing once in a while? Yes.

Why are you bothering with a cleaner if it's already so clean she thinks you don't need a cleaner ...

Regularsizedrudy · 01/02/2023 16:05

What are you asking? Either ask her to dust or do it yourself

I've been employing cleaners for over 20 years and I have found the answer to all these problems.

Sit down and type on your PC a list of what you expect to be done, print it out and give it to her.

In your case, make certain you write something like

"Dust all horizontal surfaces including all skirting boards and anything else that dust settles on."
