List of striking teachers

Hi
one of my sons is in the upper sixth of the local grammar school
the headmistress has just sent a list of striking teachers (for our information)
to get a idea of what our child’s day is going to look like
do you think this is a power move by the head trying to name and shame the teachers
I think it’s totally unnecessary its a legal right to strike
strike or not I support all teachers in their choice
just wondering on peoples opinions ?

I reported it as soon as it appeared, but MN has done nothing about it. I'm appalled

saraclara · 27/02/2023 21:29

It's gone. Thanks MNHQ.

You were absolutely right to be concerned but there’s a lot of identifying info still up which can’t help matters when it’s already been escalated at the school, the head is clearly in a lot of trouble and has apologised sincerely.

I would have made a better job of concealing the names, however there is a fundamental difference in the posts. The post by the head breached information governance ( arguably significantly because it involved a protected characteristic - union membership ), the post by the OP forwarded information that was in the public domain ( the e-mail had been sent by the school to all parents ). As I say personally I would have been more thorough with deleting the name, but the posts are quite different.

Looks like the HT has now been sacked Shock

I'm fairly sure (could be wrong) that union membership is one of the most protected pieces of info under GDPR rules so unless she has every member of staff's permission to do so, she should probably expect a call from the NEU!

I was wondering that so I looked it up and you're absolutely right @Bootoagoose123 .

If I was one of those teachers, I would go bloody ballistic, and I hope one of them does.

The OP uploaded an email that confirmed it with a very half hearted attempt at hiding the names of both the school and individuals involved

It was deleted after being pointed out that they did the exact same thing they were complaining about

hellodarknessmyoldfriend22 · 03/03/2023 17:54

It could be a different teacher/school but sounds very similar.

Read it on LBC sorry not sure how to link

All in all, it's a shame as it's so rare to have a black (female) headteacher and now there is one less. But surprising that she could have commited such a huge error nevertheless... She looks quite young, maybe it's the lack of experience.

Overall, only 2 or 3% of ALL HT in the UK are black. Very telling as a statistics, as in many schools you don't even have a diverse SLT.
Im missing the point of the thread here, as didnt know which school it was before, I assumed the HT was just spiteful by releasing the data, now I do feel a bit sorry for her seeing that it may have been (huge still) but unintended error.

SupportiveDad · 04/03/2023 01:40

This is nothing to do with the character of the head teacher….this is about a fundamental breach of information governance. Anyone who works in an environment sensitive to information governance would have picked up on this immediately. It demonstrates a lack of understanding of the importance of information governance. Clearly the outcome of the IG investigation will demonstrate whether i’m right or wrong.
