Pay Rise

In October 2021 I was offered a new job at work, a job that was effectively created just for me, and told my pay increase would be introductory then reviewed.
I waited until September 2022 to ask how long introductory was for but heard nothing back. The introductory pay rate was made up to be the same pay as other team leaders in my workplace and I was happy enough with it and wasn’t too concerned about being on more than them. Earlier this month all the other team leaders in the workplace got a pay increase as we’re struggling to recruit new people into the role. (I work in a different department) I asked if I was being increased too and told no. But I do work at the same level as them and on occasions above when I’m asked to complete management tasks. I’m repeatedly told how well I’m doing, it makes me want to find a new job if I’m not worthy of the same treatment as others. My introductory pay rate to their pay scale was fine but now I’m on less then them. Am I right to feel a bit peeved?

You need to have a clear conversation with management about your and their expectations. If they can't provide what you need to stay, then look elsewhere - and make sure you lock down the pay details of your new job ☺️

Why did you wait an entire year to ask about your pay increase? That's crazy. I would have been asking them after a month, two months max. "A bit peeved" would be an understatement.

Have you got anything in writing?

NEmama · 29/01/2023 18:30

Get angry op. They're taking the piss

I was waiting for my supervision or annual appraisal to ask but they kept getting pushed back. In that year 2 pay rises were given across the company and I was paid inline with other team leaders still. I’m happy to be paid inline with them, what I’m more upset about now is I am on less then all the others now

No, nothing in writing 😬 my contract is still the one from when I started 5 years ago and I’ve had 2 promotions in that time. I do have a job description for my current role but it differs a lot from what I am actually doing. I am doing a lot more than it states.

You biggest mistake is not getting a new contract and asking for one. I have in the past not have new contract for promotions but have detailed emails about my new role, expectations, job description and pay. You’ve let this go too long and need to chase ASAP for something more solid.
