To be tested for adhd

I have a brother who has complex AD this includes adhd ans autism.
mover the years I’ve often thought I had adhd. It was glaring obvious to me during lockdown and I really struggled. I’m now menopausal and struggling with life in general. I haven’t long stayed hrt gel which is helping me sleep a bit better.
may AIBU is is it worth asking to be checked out with the doctor? If so how would this benefit me? I work for myself so am fairly in control of about 80% of that, I’ve brought my two children up to be 16/18 respectively, what I’m saying is I’m getting by but life is getting harder and I feel burnt out. Would a diagnosis help at the dr?
also fwiw I think my mum has it too undiagnosed. I’d never mention this to her as she’d blame herself for what’s happened to my brother.

Outcomes for those with a diagnosis are better than those without. I think just receiving the diagnosis helps.

Hormonal fluctuations can affect the severity of symptoms, so menopause can for sure make it worse and receiving a diagnosis and support should be helpful. Most people benefit from medication too.

I recently got a referral for an assessment, I had a baby last year and this past year have noticed worsening of symptoms (I actually had started the assessment 11 years ago already but then moved countries half way through and never picked it up again). Word of warning though, NHS waitlist for ADHD assessment is 3 years! But if you request your referral to be sent to another provider under Right to Choose, you should get it sooner. Currently minimum 6 months though. If you can afford private then that's the quickest route.
