Partner cracked my back..now I'm in pain!

Saju1 · 28/01/2023 06:29

My partner cracked my back ( I had asked him too as I felt stiff) about 2 days ago, and I immediately felt a strange pain. 2 days laters, and the pain is getting worse, I feel like I'm going to collapse when I eat, and I can't even settle in pain due to the pain being so bad.

Has anyone else experienced this?

You need to get checked out by a professional asap

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 28/01/2023 11:40

God this sounds grim. Confused Who would get their partner to 'crack their back?! Makes me feel queasy even thinking about it. Shock

@Saju1 As pps have said, get to the GP on Monday, or preferably A & E if it's as bad as you say right now. And stop using your partner as a chiropractor. It's a skilled profession, and getting your partner/friend etc to do it is ludicrous, and dangerous!

cushioncovers · 28/01/2023 11:48

Op get to the minor injuries unit. He may have cracked a rib or damaged a disc.

007DoubleOSeven · 28/01/2023 11:48

Ffs this need A&E not an allied health professional or quack (chiropractor have zero medical training).

You need imaging on your back ASAP.

Mabelface · 28/01/2023 12:00

Another saying a&e here, and I'm normally a not unless somethings hanging off type. You don't mess with your back. He could have displaced or fractured a vertebrae.

Hypofeticalyspeekin · 28/01/2023 12:04

Chiropractor go through a 4 year medical based degree. They are very qualified.

Helen901 · 28/01/2023 12:05

Go see a&e today, asap. Doesnt sound good 😞

DP had a problem with his back. Saw a chiropractor 6 times and nothing changed.

Saw a sports therapist twice and noticed drastic differences.

ScentOfSawdust · 28/01/2023 12:17

My school friends used to do this to each other, usually by walking up and down each others backs. Even at aged 14 I knew it was bonkers and dangerous. I sometimes wonder what state their poor backs are in these days.

Ring 111, OP. They can advise whether GP or A&E is the best option for you locally.

converseandjeans · 28/01/2023 06:36

Go and see an osteopath or chiropractor. That sounds like it will get worse.

GP or A&E won't be able to help you.

Wrong..what strange advice,
Yes Op go straight to gp to get prescription for anti inflammatories and muscle relaxant as it sounds your back muscle may be in spasm now..and gp can refer for scan of the meds don't help..do not go to chiropractor in this much pain without a scan to make sure you dont do any further damage

Mangogogogo · 28/01/2023 12:21

Mine cracked my rib doing it hhahaha!

deffo go to docs even just for some decent painkillers..

do people on here literally just not ever do anything ever?

FixTheBone · 28/01/2023 12:21

isthismylifenow · 28/01/2023 06:55

It isn't unusual. Well not in my world.

There are even videos of how to do it yourself with a twisting movement.

World Of difference between doing it yourself, and getting someone else to do it.

It's virtually impossible to cause significant physical damage doing open chain movements under your own muscle power, whereas getting someone else to exert a force, especially if they're larger or stronger certainly can.

See the chiropractor in York story, where the neck of a patient was broken and they subsequently died.

Saju1 · 28/01/2023 16:19

Thank you OPs!! I honestly thought cracking the back, and now I know that obviously a lot of people don't do it, making me realise it can be really bad for me.

I called 111 and they suggested going to a and e, which I did. They did a normal examination and saw that all bones were functioning fine, they then gave me 3 types of painkillers! Liquid morphine, diazapan as a tablet and voltaron as a suporsotive! This was not fun! Two hours later the pain starting occuring again.

They then did a blood test, CTG scan and an x ray.

X ray came back fine, CTG scan came back fine, but not the blood test! The blood clot came back high for me! I started crying as I thought that was it for me! I am going to die from getting my back cracked!

My white blood cells were coming up high too! And I'm not sure why but they prescribed antibiotics as apparently I have a chest infection! I am confused! I don't have a cold, or a cough, or a fever, literally none of these things. And Before leaving he told me that if I get some symptoms such as a sharp pain in legs and chest, to come back quickly to the hospital, basically the signs of a blood clot!

I have learnt my lesson, sit up straight, do back exercises so that I never have to crack my back again!

It’s good that you ignored the stupid advice about chiropractors and also ignored the people who told you not to go to A&E.

getreadyy · 28/01/2023 16:42

"Mine cracked my rib doing it hhahaha!"

Oh hahahaha. All the lolz Hmm

MissWings · 28/01/2023 16:42

Never in my life needed my back cracking. Why the fuck do people do that?

Sandra1984 · 28/01/2023 16:48

This is a bit like asking my boyfriend (he’s a plumber) to perform heart surgery on my dog. It’s just not a good idea.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 28/01/2023 17:22

Any decent chiropractor or physio wont touch you after this until youve had the all clear. Chiros and physios train for years to do these techniques for a good reason. You can do serious damage for gods sake. Go to Aand E.

Thank goodness. She was very lucky!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 28/01/2023 17:53

Slight derail (sorry) - I had a really bad back a few years ago and went to a chiropractor. I'd tried to see an Osteopath but couldn't get an appointment for ages and was in a lot of pain. Chiropractor did the bear hug crack thing (very painful) on my first appointment. I got talked into booking a series of appointments as it worked out cheaper. Every time I went it was so so painful, I used to dread it. Is it meant to hurt? I see videos on YouTube of people really enjoying the cracks so wonder if I just got unlucky. I ended up just not going back as I couldn't face it.

My own GP suggested a McTmoney chiropractor to me - I was a bit surprised but he was absolutely brilliant and sorted me out in only 3 sessions after I had been the bane of the NHS for over a year - Yes, he had done a 4 year degree.

007DoubleOSeven · 28/01/2023 18:48

I'm so glad you've been seen in a&e, it was absolutely the right thing to do.

I am going to die from getting my back cracked

This did make me chuckle, but sympathetically- I think many of us would have felt the same!

Hopefully the anti biotics help your chest infection quickly and you feel much better soon

MissMaple82 · 28/01/2023 19:00

I once got someone to stand on my back ti crack it. I was in dimilar pain. Ended up in A&E (I was young) they just gave pain relief.

Out of sheer curiosity, what is happening when there is a crack? Is something snapping back into position, or what?

No its a release of tension. Bones are not actually cracking, it's pressure releasing from ligaments and joints
