Partner cracked my back..now I'm in pain!

Saju1 · 28/01/2023 06:29

My partner cracked my back ( I had asked him too as I felt stiff) about 2 days ago, and I immediately felt a strange pain. 2 days laters, and the pain is getting worse, I feel like I'm going to collapse when I eat, and I can't even settle in pain due to the pain being so bad.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Fairislefandango · 28/01/2023 07:17

Why are people acting like this is a really unusual thing to ask your partner to do?

Well I've never heard of it. Unless you have something wrong with your back, why on earth would it need 'cracking'? And if you do have something wrong with your back, surely seeing a chiropractor or a physio would be the obvious course of action?

Intrepidescape · 28/01/2023 07:20

This is an example of Darwinism. I have no other words.

Shoxfordian · 28/01/2023 07:24

Yeah I haven’t really heard of anyone regularly doing that either— it sounds like he’s accidentally injured you op so you should get yourself to a doctor asap

ohelponoitsagruffalo · 28/01/2023 07:29

Depending on what part of your back he was manipulating you could have some serious damage. Please see a and e asap not another chirp osteo or post on the Internet.

Campervangirl · 28/01/2023 07:29

You need a doctor or a chiropractor, whichever you can get into to see first, it sounds like he's done some damage.
If the pain is really bad I'd go to A&E.
My ex-oh used to get me to walk on his spine and it cracked with every step, I weigh 11st and was terrified that I was going to break his back, I refused but he always talked me into it, I started to hang on to the mantelshelf to try to take some of the weight of him.
Seriously op, get some medical attention

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 28/01/2023 07:32

I crack my own back multiple times a day but I would never, ever trust another person to do it - not even DH.

He may have severely injured you so I'd actually make an OOH's appointment at the local hospital as you may need an x-ray and proper checks to make sure he's not popped or broken anything.

GrumpyPanda · 28/01/2023 07:35

Doctor or even better a proper orthopedist for an x-ray and assessment. Do NOT go to a chiropractor, that's nothing more than quackery. And for future needs get some proper physiotherapy routines rather than relying on back-cracking.

MissTrip82 · 28/01/2023 07:41

You need to see an evidence-based medical practitioner. Those above advising a chiropractor etc without having any history or exam to guide them and clearly no concept of what would be a red flag here are talking out of their (cracked) arses.

HungryandIknowit · 28/01/2023 07:42

This sounds horrendous. I have also never heard of this. I think you need to see a doctor (a real one not a chiropractor).

Ladybug14 · 28/01/2023 07:43

Don't see a GP. See a chiropractor osteopath or a physio. Today

Itcouldhappenabishop · 28/01/2023 07:45

Fucking hell OP get yourself X rayed immediately! And next time see a bloody physio! I'm astonished people ask others to crack their back - their SPINE. Argh 😖

cariadlet · 28/01/2023 07:47

I've never heard of someone asking a partner to do this but it is incredibly dangerous.

You need to see a dr.

Please ignore advice to see a chiropractor. Chiropracticy is a quack science. Look up the founder. His stories and the theories he propounded are so ridiculous that it's hard to believe that they are real.
The behind the bastards podcast did an episode about him.

There are YouTube videos of actual doctors describing the harms (including serious injuries) that have been caused by chiropractors.

The spine is very complex and it's stupid to mess about with it.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 28/01/2023 07:47

You need medical help, soon.

youtwoandme · 28/01/2023 07:48

Osteopath or Chiropractor

DO NOT GO TO A&E as some have suggested.

The above are specialists in the field and maybe able to manipulate your spine there and then to ease the discomfort.

Very very dangerous having an unqualified person do that OP.

Hope you get sorted soon.

BeautifulWar · 28/01/2023 07:49

You need an osteopath. Make sure they are registered first.

lunar1 · 28/01/2023 07:53

You need a neurological examination, done by a doctor or specialist nurse, go to A&E. a reputable chiropractor is very unlikely to do anything with the history you have given without seeing scans.

Where the result of getting this wrong could be paralysis it's not worth taking any risks.

Fizbosshoes · 28/01/2023 07:56

I wouldn't know what to do to crack my own back or ask someone else to.
I have seen a chiropractor (about a different issue) but I don't think she would be my immediate choice in this case.

Hypofeticalyspeekin · 28/01/2023 08:04

It's entirely possible he's actually broken your back

This is such dangerous advice.

OP needs an x-ray to make sure her partner hasn't popped a joint or broken something. If they give her the all-clear, then she can go and get any muscle or joint pain dealt with as she likes - but sending her to a chiropractor when she could have a broken rib is horrendous advice!

She needs a doctor.

pompomdaisy · 28/01/2023 08:05

I don't let anyone who isn't qualified near me to do that. Maybe because I'm a nurse and have seen the results of injuries.

Cnidarian · 28/01/2023 08:05

Can't believe people are getting untrained people to do spinal manipulation, you can do serious damage and it can cause stroke. Chiropractic is considered alternative medicine, many doctors think it is dangerous quackery. Not all, but it is not uncommon. It is entirely possible you have sustained a serious injury, everyone stop doing this it really isn't a normal thing everyone does it's really dangerous!

It's like when you have a really good stretch!

OP you do need to get seen if painkillers aren't helping.

Because it is unusual.

RaininSummer · 28/01/2023 08:09

Ouch. I have never heard of this back cracking thing either but definitely wouldn't leave in the hands of an untrained person.

picklemewalnuts · 28/01/2023 08:10

Ibuprofen at the full OTC dose, at the regular times.

And seek medical help- try 111, they'll advise whether A&E or walk in is best.

For the people who don't get it- lucky you! The tension and stiffness in odd areas of joints, including the spine, builds to an unbearable point. If you can't stretch or twist to release it yourself. My neck, sternum, lower back, knuckles, wrists, toes, jaw- all crack. I generally manage it myself but had to go to an osteopath for a while when my neck was bad. I'd lost all rotation in it. I'm keeping on top of it now.

knittingaddict · 28/01/2023 08:12

isthismylifenow · 28/01/2023 06:55

It isn't unusual. Well not in my world.

There are even videos of how to do it yourself with a twisting movement.

Wtf! There are videos telling you how to do lots of things. Doesn't mean that they are safe to do. Please do not try this at home. Some people need protecting from themselves.

Also, see a proper doctor op. Not a snake oil salesman.
