Sick of sickness

Last terms was hell. The kids were sick constantly. I caught their shitty illnesses and ended up with bronchitis twice (probably just never fully went - I was unwell for about 6 weeks).

Week before last little boy got a terrible coldy thing - 4 days off school. Luckily rest of the family missed that one.

On Thursday just gone, so just three days back to school, little one gets a bug. Vomit and diarrhoea. Two more days off. Last night I start vomiting.

10yo woke up to vomit 30 ish minutes ago.

It’s his 10th birthday today. I have a gaming party planned and bought all the food and drink and I made him a fancy cake.

So that’s £500ish down the drain.

I’m absolutely gutted and just waiting for 9.00am so I can cancel the party.

He’s autistic. He is going to be devastated.

So instead of fun today will be trying to avoid a meltdown whilst dealing with my own illness as well as the kids’

I feel like standing in my garden and screaming and never stopping.

And now he mistook diarrhoea for wind and we’ve had to deal with that.

I just want to cry.

When there are bugs in my house I literally disinfect everything without a pulse and wash my hands constantly.
If D and V is doing the rounds I make sure I bleach the loo each and every time it’s used by the ill person before the next person can use it.
9.5 times out of 10 I manage to limit the bug spread to any other members of the household.

Merryoldgoat · 28/01/2023 03:01

Yes I’ve been bleaching but I don’t think I can go ahead with the party.

Plus I can’t give out cake I’ve made before getting sick.

You have my sympathies but it can’t be helped. However, I’m struggling to understand £500 on a party…. WTAF????

Merryoldgoat · 28/01/2023 07:32

We hired a gaming company to do pop up video game arcade for him which was £260
p, food was about £100 and the decorations etc another £30 ish

So actually more like £400.

Sounds unlikely they will, but would the gaming company offer a cancellation for another birthday date perhaps in a week or two time?

TheChosenTwo · 28/01/2023 08:23

oh ffs that is just fucking shit. I mean, quite literally here but seriously op I don’t think you’re alone I’m feeling sick to the back teeth of illness. it’s Sod’s Law (I like how this has been autocorrected and capitalised!).
@Hesma we had a gaming bus party last year and it was about that by the time I’d paid for the bus (£320 for 10 kids I think), ordered domino’s, party bag stuff, cake, decorations etc, made up for the fact that he hadn’t had a party for 2 years prior due to bloody Covid).
@Merryoldgoat i don’t really have anything to offer you other than sympathy 💐

picklemewalnuts · 28/01/2023 09:00

Try not to despair. I mean, it's shit, but it happens. Contact the gaming set up and ask about postponements, standby list or whatever.

See what food will keep.

Look after your DC. Tell him the party needs to wait until he is well enough to enjoy himself!

Feeling much more positive as the amazing gaming company have said they won’t charge the balance and they’ll carry the deposit over to a future booking.

My son is finally resting which is great and we’ll have a day of movies etc. once he feels up to it.

That's great.

I hope you all feel better soon and DS enjoys his bday best he can.

Gaming party to still look forward to for him.

Merryoldgoat · 28/01/2023 10:04

You’re all very kind - thank you.

I’m absolutely exhausted so think I’ll have a hot bath and a sleep

Oh that's great news. Well done to that company. A lot of companies would have just said no and pocketed the money. Get well soon all in your house.

Merryoldgoat · 28/01/2023 18:43

@RocketIceLollie

I was so impressed - I’ll be recommending them to people for sure.

We’ve decided to have a big garden party after Easter and we can have the gaming upgrade to a tent in the garden and more space indoors for family and friends.

I spent 4 hours in bed as did my son but the vomit has stopped now at least.
