I see the last thread got binned via the mumsnet wheel of randomness.

28 1/2 is fine but at 28 3/4 you’re far too old.

To me it seems quite old to be living at home. I was married with a mortgage and expecting my first baby at 28.

I suppose things are getting more difficult though financially. House prices are crazy at the moment, rent rates too.

Then again I have seen it trotted out on here plenty of times that you don’t really become an adult until 25.

Any age into double figures means you can and should ditch the “and a half”.

As far as too old to live at home, completely depends on the situation. Especially considering how tough it is to buy property or even find rentals these days. Someone living with parents, contributing financially and domestically, whilst saving up for a mortgage is fine.

A 28 year old with no intention of ever moving out, always having dinner cooked for them and washing done for them, not so okay.

28? Not too old.

28 and a half? Yes, too old.

I moved out at 21 and never looked back. I think it's easy to get into the habit of relying on parents well into adult years and it's a trend that needs reversing

Agreed. I moved out at 18 and found my own way in life (including financially). Now own my own house in London and have done well in my career. And I come from a deprived background.

But then you just need to see the Education posts to see how moddle-coddled so many children are today. Parents posting on behalf of their children who are of adult age, if their children aren't mature/independent enough to seek the answers themselves it's a bit embarrassing.

Absolutely.

I couldn't, but I wouldn't judge anyone else. Life is so expensive.
My brother and his child will be living with our mum forever and he's 38!

It depends on the situation surely?

28, living at home because your parents own a house in an area with high rents and house prices so you're still working to get your house deposit? Probably not too old.

28, living at home because your relationship has ended and you're getting back on your feet? Probably not too old.

28, living at home, barely working, don't pull your weight around the house and seem to have no plans in life other than your mother picking your pants off the floor? Yes too old, and should stop being an overgrown teenager.
