Has anyone ever kicked a salt habit? I’ve tried substitutes, healthier salts, herbs/spices and nothing quite satisfies the cravings and the love I have for salt!

I’ve always loved it- I put extra salt on everything, and I mean everything. Cereal, toast, vegetables, chocolate, biscuits, I actually can’t think of a food I don’t put salt on. I’m even add extra to crisps etc. I had a cream egg earlier with salt all over it.

I don’t have any vitamin deficiencies and I’ve been like this since childhood so it’s not a new thing, but I really want to kick the habit for obvious health reasons, but it’s so hard because I just love salt so much.

Does anyone have any advice/been in a similar situation? Cheers!

Stop buying salt. Don't have it in the house and you won't be putting it on everything.

Or, y'know, collapse in a few years due to a heart attack. Up to you.

Have you been checked for Addison's disease?

I am dairy intolerant but LOVE dairy. You have to accept that you won’t enjoy food that much for a while as your taste buds get used to recalibrating to your reduced salt diet. You won’t die from not enjoying food as much it’s just boring. Be prepared to be bored for a bit for the greater good of your health.

Eventually you won’t be able to tell you’ve reduced your salt intake. I often can’t tell when I don’t have dairy anymore.
