Imagine my name is Zara Lee (it’s similar to this)

all my life I have been called Zara Lee, by everyone apart from my family who call me Zara.

In school, uni, work. By friends etc. it’s always Zara Lee. Never ever get called Zara. And I have never introduced myself as Zara Lee.

It sounds quite odd how they say my full name in a normal sentence like “You ok, Zara Lee?”.

AIBU to think it’s not normal to be called by my full name?

PS I’m aware Lee can also be used as a first name ie Zara-Leigh, however this is just an example and my real surname couldn’t be used like that.

think Chloe Wright, Amber Lowe, short names etc.

I have a friend like this. It's a short, unremarkable name but everyone always says 'firstname lastname'.
It's a one syllable common first name and a one syllable common last name.
I feel a bit sorry for him actually because he says he's had it since school - people just seem to do it unprompted.

Do you have any siblings who also get their whole name in its entirety all the time? It's very odd to use both your first and last name whenever they talk to you.

Well it hasn't helped that you've used Lee as an example as it just sounds like they thought your name was hyphenated.

So you are saying your name is Jane Smith and people call you Jane Smith even though you have only introduced yourself as Jane?

Sorry, I just keep thinking of a Satah Lee gateau! Were you born in the 70's?😀

I worked with a girl called Jenny Lee and it was actually really difficult not to call her by her full name all the time. It just rolled off the tongue so well!

Are you one of the characters on Call the Midwife?!

I think Zara Reid might be a better comparison, 2 syllable first name 1 syllable last name, my siblings don’t get the same no

it does feel quite odd and formal for people to be saying my full name lol! Especially in school when everyone else was just called by their normal name
