Question for horse owners

I’m absolutely kicking myself for this. I’m not making excuses either because it’s completely my own fault.

I bought my new horse nearly 2/3 months ago now and completely forgot to send away the passport to be updated. It’s going to be sent away tomorrow first thing, but I’m in an absolute panic now- I’ve NEVER done this before with my other mares and I can’t believe this slipped my mind. Has anyone else ever made the mistake of not sending it within the 28 days? Were the passporters ok with updating it or did it cause problems because it wasn’t done in the time frame?

it was completely my own fault. I remember considering waiting a week or so to send it because there was talk of Royal Mail strikes and I was worried it would get lost etc, then I was unfortunately badly unwell and completely forgot about it. It just slipped my mind and I assumed i had done it (until I found it in my room and realised I completely forgot).

The horse hasn’t left the yard (apart from hacking) but hasn’t been in a box or trailer and hasn’t been transported anywhere since I bought her and I haven’t travelled with her at all yet.

just feeling so annoyed at myself and worried about it

Gah. I've never sent mine away.

Vieve1325 · 26/01/2023 19:17

Owned mine 6 years in March and haven’t yet sent the passport away….

Haven’t been hunted down yet but could still happen I suppose!

Cherrysoup · 26/01/2023 19:18

Relax, I’m still seeing horses for sale without a passport. Took me ages to even work out where to send mine, it’s Irish Horse Board and I couldn’t work out the address, there was no postcode.

Dogsarebetterthanpeopl · 26/01/2023 19:20

Always owned horses. My 16 year old mare I bought as a two year old has a ball of paper mache as a passport as I left it in the rain after vet marked up her jags ten years ago. Never got around to putting it in my name. Not a problem. Got a few horses doesn't make much difference. A passport is not proof of ownership. It's not like the dvla if you don't change a car title. Don't worry and hope you love horse ownership

Bemyclementine · 26/01/2023 19:22

No one will care, don't worry

Mogul · 26/01/2023 19:32

Yup it's taken me months with the last two and no issues.

I also haven't told them when pts either

CalistoNoSolo · 26/01/2023 19:45

Wow, you are seriously overreacting. No-one is going to check the passport unless you go to a competition or similar that needs to see it.

CalistoNoSolo · 26/01/2023 19:46

For the vax record, that should have included.

You might find @omgicantbelieveitx as a new horse owner yu want to post here

www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_tack_room

instead of AIBU which isn’t the horse riding forum of Mumsnet

Deliaskis · 26/01/2023 20:15

Totally doesn't matter. When they stamp it they'll use the current date rather than backdate it, but that's all.

Thank you! Just posted here because I thought it was the main forum, hadn’t actually realised there was a horse rider forum.

I was so worried when I posted- I had just completely worked myself into a state about it! Glad it’s not a big problem.

this isn’t even my first horse- I’ve had them for 25+ years! But I’ve never forgotten about the passport before until now, glad I remembered before planning outings and trips away in the box!

If it's any consolation, I was digging through some drawers the other day and found the passport of a horse that died ten years ago that I forgot to return to Weatherby's (chances are I won't, TBH).

Unless you're regularly competing at affiliated level or travelling abroad, literally nobody will bother. Your vet might raise an eyebrow at worst.

Chill.

hourbyhour101 · 26/01/2023 20:32

I wouldn't worry. We didn't have any problems. My vet rolled his eyes but bar that 🤷🏼‍♀️
