To start correcting people on my name?

NC’d.

My name is Alexandra. Not a hard name to pronounce or spell. Not a weird, unique or “strange” name. I was born early 90’s and I feel it’s quite common with women in my age bracket.

I am constantly being called Alexander. Which is the male version.

Some teachers used to call it me when I was at school. I get called it in the doctors surgery, when they call my name over the tannoy. When speaking on the phone and I’m giving my details they refer to me as it.

I get called it at work, even though my full name is in my email address and signature.

I politely tell people my actual name and how to pronounce it. But it’s falling on deaf ears.

I feel like shouting at people “For fucks sake my name is Alexandra. It’s really not hard to pronounce”.

Is it unreasonable to be this annoyed and want to start harshly correcting people?

I’m Alison and constantly called Alice, I get told it’s the same, no it’s not. They’re idiots if they can’t grasp it’s a totally different name

YANBU, definitely correct them every time and if it continues then use the wrong name when addressing them. If a colleague is Patrica call her Patric, or vice versa.

I must say I'm shocked that people address a woman named Alexandra as "Alexander". That is pure stupidity

It's definitely not just the OP, I'm constantly addressed as (spaced for search reasons!)
D a n i e l

Even when I send an email from my name
Even when I introduce myself
Even when I'm standing in front of them
Even at the doctors/hospital/when someone calls my name

To the point I've been in tears over it. It didn't start happening until the last few years

Tammy is a very different kettle of fish! I can’t go in to bat for Tammy 😂

Ditto. As soon as I heard it the first time I immediately said she was absolutely not to be called that. Some people are just determined to shorten beautiful names into something distinctly unlovely!

Another Alexandra here and it used to always drive me mad when I worked in customer services and emails would say "Dear Sir...." after seeing "AlexandrA". My phone often autocorrects my own name as well.
I usually just use Alex which is equally confusing to a lot of people.

Similar to a PP, I have a DS where people mix up two of the middle letters to make a totally different name and he is very quick to correct anyone now at 6, and I hope that continues. Although if I'd thought about the letters being mixed up I probably wouldn't even have given him his name because the changed name just isn't very nice.

Not quite the same but I have a Dutch surname that isn’t common. I always spell it for people and it actually sounds like 2 separate names/words when spoken so people do understandably stumble over it. But I lost my patience when someone (British) once asked “are you sure that’s how it’s spelt?”
