Anonymity and the ability to hide behind a screen

OldCow1 · 25/01/2023 23:19

Yes that is true for some people.

pzyck · 25/01/2023 23:20

It's kind of obvious why. People are often anonymous online, or at least if they're not, face no imminent physical threat for anything they choose to say.

m00rfarm · 25/01/2023 23:20

Sometimes I read something that REALLY riles me. I type something that could be construed as nasty, read it, then (generally) delete it and move on. My short term memory is terrible right now, so much of the time I forget I have deleted it, and then feel terrible until I remember that it was not posted in the first place ...

OldCow1 · 25/01/2023 23:22

Moorfarm , to see, that to me is kind

Anonymity brings out the worst in (some) people - keyboard warriors, liars and deceivers on online dating, scammers.

OldCow1 · 25/01/2023 23:24

You dong just say what the xxx you like to people without considering the effect first ( of the payback

To be honest though, I have found a lot of very kind caring people online. These are Generally in Facebook groups of a particular interest or similar people. I’ve had to deal with a lot of traumatic events in the last couple of years and have preferred to ask for help, support or reassurance from these strangers than some people in real life

Anonymity reveals you.

Face to face you consider the consequences. Being nice means you are thought well of. Liked.

When that is not a consideration, well 🤷 you see how people would be in real life if they took off their mask.
