Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

I've just had soup followed by toast and Lidl pate for lunch, and noticed the 170 g pate is packaged in two parts, so sparing those feel fear. I'm going to have to eat the other 1.5 packs by February 5 - can I do it?

💪
You've got this!

Miniestelle · 28/01/2023 16:10

Tonight, tonight, It’s pate night tonight.

GloriAAAH · 28/01/2023 16:29

You can freeze it. The pack I buy is 175g & no way could I eat that, or would eat it within the 3 day date. If 2 of us eat it then it will last 2 days. But it can get pretty sickly.

OdeToBarney · 25/01/2023 22:54
@Talipesmum if you're not spreading your marmite like pate, you're doing it wrong! 😁

@OdeToBarney This is the very reason why people think they hate Marmite.

Tonight, tonight, It’s pate night tonight.

I just sang that in my head with accompanying jazz hands.

ginexplorer · 28/01/2023 16:41

Geez I wish this was all I had to worry about in life.

Hopeforrainbows · 28/01/2023 16:49

I’ve kept coming back to this thread. Really loving the craziness😂😂😂😂😂😂

00100001 · 28/01/2023 17:40

I've eaten so much pate these past couple if days Grin

mushroom, chicken, vegetable 😋

Baconand · 28/01/2023 17:43

I’ve been in co-op today and specifically bought a tub of pate to see how much I can eat in one sitting.

00100001 · 28/01/2023 17:45

Co-op pate marketing board have played blinder 🤣🤣🤣

threatmatrix · 28/01/2023 17:51

TrianglePlayer · 28/01/2023 12:28

This is accurate. It’s also fine to just cut it off with a knife and put it straight in your mouth. Or eat it off a spoon if it’s in a jar.

Even better.

FavouriteSlippers · 28/01/2023 17:52

I eat a whole pack with half a box of ritz
😂

I’ve read the thread. Thank you. Everyone seems to be fine giving their kids tandsmør, but if thats really how it’s supposed to be it’s taken the previous joy out of it for me somewhat.
I’m ok with being wrong but I genuinely don’t want to be right on this occasion . It also says it’s not suitable for freezing on the packet. It’s lightly cooked chicken liver. If you’ve ever had Noro virus or psittacosis you’d not mess around with lightly cooked poultry. (Ardennes was always too bumpy)
Anyway, thank you for all your help.
I know people asked for pictures but we’ve done the complete 180 and gone for scampi with chips and peas instead, so without oval plates I can’t.

tandsmør? Google tells me it's toothpaste???? Not I don't understand what it means here.
Scampi on an oval plate sounds delicious 😋 can we see a pic?

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/01/2023 18:44

I still don't understand the difficulty in using lots of pate rather than a thin scraping?

If you're eating it, you're eating it, eating a tiny amount would not reduce the risks of being ill from it if it is off.

Surely better to eat it quickly in one go than to keep it several days if that worries you though?

Hopeforrainbows · 28/01/2023 18:48

Translated it means tooth butter.

Butter spread so thick that you leave teeth marks in it when you take a bite.

OP is trying to say that she’s not ok spreading pate that thick that it is like tooth butter.

i am vegan … so sadly no pate experience…. but whenever I have peanut butter on my crumpets it’s most definitely tandsmor!

RampantIvy · 28/01/2023 18:49

Seriously @pyracantha? If you get pate as a starter in a restarant and just ate it the way you do then you would leave most of it on the plate. Pate isn't like those meat or fish pastes that you buy in a jar. It is meant to be spread thickly.

I still think this is a wind up, or you have an eating disorder.

RampantIvy · 28/01/2023 18:50

Yes, I had to google tandsmor.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 28/01/2023 18:50

I think you jumped the shark with your most recent post, @pyracantha Grin

Hopeforrainbows · 28/01/2023 18:51

Me too! 😊

Talipesmum · 28/01/2023 19:51

OP it is totally up to you how you eat pate. As you can see most people spread it more thickly than you do - that’s why it’s sold in quantities that allow that. You’re quite right to chuck it after a few days as it’s a food poisoning risk. It means you’ll always be throwing some away, but if you love it, don’t worry. It’s all just preferences, and since yours is to spread it thinly, then just make your peace with throwing some away.

Or any chance you can freeze half of it for later in the week?

Is that you Lady Whiteadder? Seriously though who gets 'joy' from a parsimonious pinch of pate? Live a little, slather it on next time.

Why would it take the joy out of it for you? Eat it however you want. Do you have a difficult relationship with food in general?

muddypuddle · 28/01/2023 20:58

I’m sorry, but psittacosis Is parrot and budgie flu.
