Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

I am surprised that nobody has said to call 999 yet! Shall we have a show of hands:

  1. 999
  2. welfare check
  3. don't be so ridiculous

I think we should ask MNHQ to check in on the OP. OP, if you're still reading, please update us - we're all worrying a bit about your wellbeing!

we as a family really like it - it’s literally the once a week treat centre piece meal with salad on a Saturday night. We look forward to it. We also eat it for days afterwards as I said in my OP. Eventually the outside is grey and the inside is pink and I’m scared it’s not safe based on the packet instructions but also my nose.

You sound as if you were ashamed because you buy/eat pate. You dont have to feel like that!
But it would be useful for others to tell us how big a packet you buy and dont manage to eat up.

This is possibly the most middle class post I’ve ever read 😂

Seriously?

Hellocatshome · 25/01/2023 22:49

Of course they can. How big a pack of pate are you buying?. Me and DH can polish one off with a baguette in 1 sitting.

Same. I’m imagining a lump of pate the size of my head now.

Can it be frozen?

Yes, I froze the pate I over bought at Christmas.

I was pondering at the Waitrose checkout today because the lady ahead of me was buying a ?175g slab of pate and a jar of meat paste. I wondered who got what in her house.
My stepson would push salmon around his plate but loved kippers so he got that much cheaper option and we appreciated our salmon. It felt a bit mean, but was Win Win.

I don't get how it can last so long. (But I'm odd and like pate and strawberry jam sandwiches)

That's not 'odd' that's deranged.

Roxy69 · 27/01/2023 20:17

I live alone and always freeze it into single portions as soon as I get it home. I can't bear food waste. Also if it is mainly liver there's an issue with the iron content so I never want to eat a lot of it.

MissMarpleRocks · 27/01/2023 20:19

Anyone have any easy recipes to share?

What a weird post.

Are you honestly saying a family of 4 can't use up one pack of pate over a week or so?

Is this the new Mumsnet chicken?!

😂😂

SherbetDips · 27/01/2023 20:24

I live alone and I manage to eat the whole packet. I’ve never been scared of pate before tho so it may be different for you if you are scared of a deli food

Anyone have any easy recipes to share?

Yes, but it's not for the novice.

Ingredients: pate, butter, bread

Method

  1. Cut a slice of bread. If crusty, leave as is. Otherwise toast it.
  2. Butter the bread or toast.
  3. Cut a generous wodge of pate.
  4. Place on bread or toast.
  5. Eat.
  6. Repeat.
  7. Cover any unused pate with clingfilm and either freeze for another time or get it back in the fridge with a view to eating the rest later in the day next day.

Your centre piece meal is pate on bread with a salad, that's a snack 🤣 (we aren't in any way fat). We have more than a slither though.

What an odd post all round.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 27/01/2023 20:55

I could eat a 80g pack on 4 pieces of toast and did most days over Xmas

Nogg · 27/01/2023 20:57

Just made me add pate to my shopping.

morrisons do small portions 65p for a tiny slither op….. Could feed your family of four for a week.

Unused pate??? What is that strange thing you mention? My village Tesco didn’t have any pate today. I suspect due to the run of MNetters thanks to this thread.
