What is wrong with my body

Posting here for traffic sorry

Feeling really really fed up - currently ttc (I have a blocked fallopian tube).

Every month before my period I tend to have brown spotting on and off for a week, then my period arrives and that's the end of it.

I'm currently ttc so I tracked my ovulation this month - I'm about 4dpo. I have just been to the toilet and noticed I've got brown spotting... my period isn't due for about 11 days!

I honestly don't know how much more I can mentally take. I've had surgeries and I haven't got endometriosis. There are no abnormalities in my uterus/cervix to cause this spotting.

Can anyone help? I don't think it's ovulation spotting as I wouldn't know what that is or when it happens? For me to have spotting longer than 7 days before my next period never happens.

Obviously I'm hoping I'm pregnant but looking at my past with this spotting it just feels further away than ever.

Why would I have brown spotting when I'm only 4dpo?

If anyone can help I'll be forever grateful as I think I'm 2 minutes away from a full on meltdown. Thank you 🙏

I had the brown spotting between periods, similar to what you describe.

Had a hysteroscopy; they discovered a small polyp in the interior of my uterus. The polyp had its own small blood supply and was leaking tiny amounts of blood. The blood was brown because it was decomposing.

Had "out-patient" surgery: went into the hospital around 7:00 am. Had general anesthesia, woke up, dressed and ready to leave hospital around 12:00 pm, so no overnight stay.

Polyp was benign. No more spotting!

I live over in the U.S. so the healthcare system is different. From what I've read, it seems like at the NHS you have to beg and plead to get an appointment with a gynecologist and then you have wait months for the appointment. Maybe try a private practice if you can afford it?

Thank you for replying.

Unfortunately I had a hysteroscopy a couple of months ago and there were no polyps or abnormalities. I too thought it could be a polyp :(

You are right regarding the wait times and pleading for an appointment :(

It may be that your uterine lining is just shedding tiny amounts of "old”, decomposing blood. Changing levels of different hormones trigger the uterine lining to start shedding blood and maybe there's a rise in one hormone or drop in another hormone during those days when you're spotting. It's an awful nuisance because you have to keep using pads or tampons all the way through that long stretch of days.

@user1471521072

If this is what is causing it would that mean I'm not pregnant (again) this month?
Or can I just shed it randomly? It's so confusing!

I always have a bit of spotting, when ever I am pregnant the spotting stops and my period doesn't arrive so it doesn't mean anything is wrong. It is frustrating to not get pregnant though. How long have you been ttc?

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 17:22

@WonderingWanda

Thanks for replying.
Have you had the spotting and still been pregnant? I've got cramps too but only mild.

Been ttc for two years but had surgeries in between. I do only have one working tube but apparently there are no other issues. It's so disheartening x

Sometimes spotting can be caused by implantation.

Sleepwouldbenicesometimes · 25/01/2023 17:30

Brown spotting is a hormonal (progesterone) imbalance. This needs addressing before TTC.

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 17:38

@Sleepwouldbenicesometimes

Can this be sorted easily?

I'm definitely going to call the doctors for this next month.

@WindUpPenguin

I'm only 4dpo :( isn't it a bit early?

I had brown spotting for a week before my period all through my 30s. They never found a cause (I had fibroids but removing them made no difference). It didn't seem to cause any problems conceiving, but it certainly was annoying.

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 17:50

@TheYearOfSmallThings

That's interesting. Every doctor I've spoken to about this has never thought it was an issue.
I'm just concerned as I'm only 4 days into my two week wait so I feel like my body doesn't even have a chance of getting pregnant if I can't even last 4 days after ovulation before spotting!

Mine stopped after an ERPC following a miscarriage. I had repeated miscarriages up until that point. A simple blood test at days 1 4 and 21 I think it is will check your hormone levels

Forfrigz · 25/01/2023 18:25

I had this for ages and it turned out to be coeliac disease. It can also cause miscarriages too, doctors don't like to look for it because they prefer to dole out lots of expensive drugs/therapies instead. Most people with coeliac disease never know they have it, live their life with mystery aches/pains/ weird symptoms, then end up with osteoporosis. Just something to bear in mind in case.

ThreeLittleDots · 25/01/2023 18:34

I had this for years, no polyp. I did have an ectropian but I don't think that was the cause. A nurse thought it may be hormonal (perimenopause).

Could be low progesterone and they may be able to give you supportive progesterone to sustain your womb lining during your luteal phase.

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 18:38

@ThreeLittleDots

Literally every doctor I've seen about this isn't interested! It baffles me as to me it's such a big deal! I'm definitely going to push for the 21 day test next month.

I'm only 30 - would I be peri menopausal? That's my biggest fear

OP posts:
anon12333 · 25/01/2023 18:39

I have had it confirmed when I had surgery that I do ovulate..

OP posts:
PollyAmour · 25/01/2023 18:41

I doubt you are peri at 30. Fingers crossed it's a sign of implantation and you are pregnant.

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 18:42

@PollyAmour

Thank you so much. I really hope so too - I'm just not holding much hope seeing as I spot before periods :(

OP posts:
Possiblynotever · 25/01/2023 18:57

I had brown spotting between periods and ot was due to a lack of progesterone, which is also what you need for the egg to attach to the womb.
Hormon tests?

Possiblynotever · 25/01/2023 18:58

Also, check whether you are coeliac

Mellymoon · 25/01/2023 19:40

Potentially a hormone imbalance particularly progesterone. This is what helps maintain a pregnancy also so you should tell the GP or consultant and then have that looked at.

anon12333 · 25/01/2023 20:44

@Mellymoon

My consultant wasn't concerned by it at all! Two gps I've seen haven't been either!

I'm going to push for the test x
