How long to see neurologist

Hi,

Apologies after another night of no sleep and being in continuous pain, I wonder really how long you can wait to see a Neurologist as an in patient? In A&E they made it sound like they were keeping me in until MRI but 5 days now have nearly been reached.

Initially thinking I was bed blocking in an apparent half filled hospital I keep asking ward staff who say they just don’t know and bung me with more painkillers (I was told in A&E one of the many possible diagnosis may be just mass over dose in last couple of months so I’m getting ever more scared.)

I’m now thoroughly constipated and the catheter I have in is agony, the bag has been allowed to get full and I think urine had possibly gone back inside me. Causing two episodes so far I asked for help but been told to smile and relax. I’m not kidding. Where I have the catheter in I really feel it may be adding to the constipation suffer - is that possible?

I haven’t seen any doctor since Monday and the revolution about a neck op which isn’t in pain. I spoke to my work who insist on a new fit note but the GP who said it is down to hospital indicated the hospital won’t write a fit note until discharge and then back date - does this sound right?

Thank you, they seem to talk of Neurology as being up there with mental health if not worse so I don’t know, I so wish I’d read the reviews about this General Hospital in the full. I wish I was going mad. Please god help me. Thank you again.

I’m so confused with the latest admission awaiting MRI for suspect broken hip and theatre straight away, the person has been refused a catheter on request, yet I was told it was needed to break infection and reduce a UTI whilst in.

Which hospital are you in? I know one in which one neurologist is covering the work of 3 people. That means it will take her at least 3 times as long to get to each patient (often on different wards as nowhere else to put the patients). That’s one doctor, without taking into account the fact that each nurse may also be covering the work of multiple colleagues.
Sorry this is happening to you.

Colchester General - moved from 2nd floor ward to a first so getting nearer the exit! along with noted being a disturbance in the night as just heard the nurse handover I do appreciate now there is a few of us actually waiting and it is assured an escalation voicemail has been left.
Quite interesting there are patients who paid for private scans then come to nhs as seems some of the consultants do private and nhs together interesting. I just assumed once private scans you stayed that way.

Hmmm, back again.

Parents refuse to take my home as I suspected. They want me to have operation.

Caught consultant who saw me after MRI this lunch time, still saying they are chasing neurologist but they will fit me in when they see fit. Asked how blood tests were in the A&E (5 viles taken) and apparently they come back normal.

It isn’t Cauda Equine (we definitely knew that already) it could be something like Guillian-Barre still as apparently that would fall to Neurology to determine.

live update - another doctor appeared minutes later from Nuro, within minutes he say’s not MS or Guillian-Barre. He tried to blame numb tummy for Pre/and Diabetes at which I said I’m being re tested by hospital and I have only had MRI scan.

This is a pinched nerve situation in his best opinion.

I guess it is whether I decide now to have the operation. Risk wise all I could find was loss of voice potential.

Do I pay private to get an altrasound? I can’t see it being weight loss aid (Saxenda) either as that goes from body in 72 hours.

Fortunately I’ve tried to down a toffee and date pudding to move bowel along with 1 slice of white toast so far today so can’t go to theatre immediately.

Sorry I’m off my rocker on morphine. I told my parents everything was ok then a third conversation wasn’t easy. I can’t believe it. Thank you for your support early hours 💐
