Luxury chauffeur drive

It’s my elderly parents diamond anniversary soon….a momentous occasion! 😊 They wish to host (and pay) for a lovely dinner for our family at a hotel. It is expected that family stay and pay for their own rooms at the hotel. For my family (4 adults) this will be about £500. We are not hard up and neither are my parents. My parents have stated clearly no gifts, thank you.
My sister has suggested we pay for a luxury car to transport my parents to and from the venue. The car is a Rolls Royce and the cost is likely to be £1000.
My father used to work for Rolls Royce so it’s a nice connection although I’ve never heard him say he’d love a trip in one of these cars. I have told my sister very politely that this is going beyond my budget and I’ve suggested a more affordable but lovely gift - a champagne luncheon at a hotel, a 1/10th of the price. My parents have always been really kind and generous to us growing up but I don’t have money to Chuck around this year and I can’t justify £1000 for an hour in a car! This has got me questioning myself….am I being a tight wad for not wanting to fund this??

60 years is an achievement, congratulations to them.

I wonder if some middle-ground might be worth finding. If the Roller is out of your budget it's out of your budget and there's nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, the champagne lunch might feel like a bit of a repeat of the meal they're hosting, maybe?

They said no presents and you're all paying out for the stay, it's not unreasonable to say you can't manage it, and to suggest something cheaper if there has to be a present.
