Am I right that this is the best way to split the cost of £1500 for a 4 bed lodge:

Room 1 - family 1: 2 adults and 1 DC (18 months) pays £375
Room 2 and 3 - family 2: 2 adults and 2 DC (age 4 and 6) pays £750
Room 4 - family 3 (parents/in-laws of adults and grandparents of all DC) pays £375

please let me know if you’d split differently?

Split per person? Divide the cost by 9 and multiply accordingly.

So the 3 person family pays £500
The 4 person family pays £666
The couple pays £334

But will they let you have 9 in an 8 person cabin?

Under 2s don’t count.

JudgeRudy · 23/01/2023 20:07

No, they're paying £375 for the additional room needed to accommodate their 2 kids.

Simplelobsterhat · 23/01/2023 20:07

I don't understand why so many people are suggesting an equal split. That would be ridiculously unfair to the grandparents to pay the same as a group with double the number of people and rooms! I can see the arguments for both per room and per person (or even counting all kids as half), but definitely not equal split unless the grandparents have offered to treat you, pay towards you, as that's what they would be doing.

In this case I'd be tempted to do per person rather than room just because it feels a bit harsh that one family pay double when another family also have a child taking up communal living space. But in other situations I think per room is fine - holidays are more expensive when you have more kids, that's hardly controversial!

Calmdown14 · 23/01/2023 20:09

@DottyLittleRainbow no, that's the point. Center PARC's strictly enforce that any child over two needs their own bed.

So five (including toddi) could share a two bed which would be £500 each.

But the family of four would also need that option so it would also cost them £1000.

MelchiorsMistress · 23/01/2023 18:40

It doesn’t seem fair that family 1 with a baby is paying the same as the couple with no children.

I thought that originally then thought, wait, its Nan and Grandad and they're likely helping out with childcare. That's a fair swap in my eyes.

JudgeJ · 23/01/2023 20:10

Paq · 23/01/2023 18:37

No, not fair. Divide by 3. That isn't mathematically fair either but it's more proportionate that the family with two small kids pays double!

But they're occupying 50% of the accommodation so they should pay 50% of the cost, why is it expected that people with children should get an easy ride?

MyAnacondaMight · 23/01/2023 20:10

A 3 bed lodge split 3 days would be £383 each. The extra fourth bedroom (for your DC) is costing a further £350.

So you could split it £383 / £733 / £383, but that’s only £17 less than you’d be paying on a per room basis.

BungleandGeorge · 23/01/2023 20:11

It might show the rooms being similar size on the floor plan but whenever I’ve been to CP there’s been a really tiny twin room and one double that’s largest. Also, I’m pretty sure when you book a baby they add a charge for the cot. I think the idea of paying half price for the kids is probably fairest.

No charge for under 2s. A cot is standard in all accommodation.

mewkins · 23/01/2023 20:12

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/01/2023 20:03

You would have to pay more for a 2 bed.

And there is very little availability of one bed apartments at CP so if families 1 and 3 booked their own villas you'd probably all have to book 2 bed villas anyway and pay exactly the same.

Energydrink · 23/01/2023 20:12

i Would be embarrassed to suggest to my friends/ family, what you are proposing .

Wingingit11 · 23/01/2023 20:12

I think the original split is fair. If your two kids were able to share ie under two years for CP you could get a three bedder. Or look at the price difference between theee and four bedder (don’t understand why people are saying the difference between two and three bed as it’s irrelevant)

Completely agree.

I’m single with no kids. I’ve been on holiday with friends / family who are married with kids. If the kids are in a separate room, then we divide the cost of the house by room per adult (if you’re a family with 2 rooms, you pay for 2 rooms). Anything else is considered wholly unfair.

Headabovetheparakeet · 23/01/2023 20:13

You're not booking a hotel!

What's the cost of a 3 bed lodge? If you're not happy to split it three ways then maybe get family 2 to pay the difference between a 3 and 4 bed lodge and split the rest.

Nixynic · 23/01/2023 20:14

I’d feel very cheated if I was family 2. Two small children paying the same as 2 adults and a baby. I’d probably refuse to go if I was family 2. Or I’d say that I’d book our own / bedroom lodge for cheaper.

The bedrooms are such a small part of the Center Parcs experience in my opinion. The families are equally sharing the other rooms in the lodge. You are also mostly paying for access to all the grounds and swimming pool etc, one car parking space per family.

Parky04 · 23/01/2023 20:15

This is why we never shared accommodation with anyone!

thinkfast · 23/01/2023 20:18

Do centre parcs lodges bedrooms actually have room for a cot? The last time I stayed in one they certainly didn't. The rooms were teeny.

Lurchintowardsyourfavouritecity · 23/01/2023 20:18

If you’re paying half OP you definitely need the biggest bedroom! And one of the bathrooms just for your family.

Seeingadistance · 23/01/2023 20:19

Toomanyclothesinthecloset · 23/01/2023 18:34

I would divide it by 3.

I agree.

But you’d have 2 rooms.

How is it fair for others to pay more to accommodate that? Why should others pay more to enable your children to have their own rooms?

Not snarky - interested in your POV.

MrsMiddleMother · 23/01/2023 20:19

I think this is completely fair and a good way to share it, cost per room

They already explained their POV in the post you quoted explaining that the bedrooms are a tiny bit of the experience/cost.

Unless you are all incredibly close, six adults and three children in what sounds like cramped conditions whilst away from home is a recipe for disaster.
