Six siblings between us and not a single card for my 1 year old's birthday

Aibu to think that's a bit shit?

Never mind, I know people have lots going on in their own lives but it's a shame.

And it's our second! Does that matter?

I'd like to vent a little here, I won't be saying anything to anyone asking why they haven't sent anything etc

We never got cards for number 2s first birthday either. I guess it depends on how much weight you put on cards. They don't bother us.

akittyisyou · 23/01/2023 17:35

YABU, OP. Did you send cards for all nieces and nephews, because that’s incredibly
considerate unless you have been invited to a party for the birthday.

it’s not like the 1 year old can read it.

Hmmm it does bother me a bit. Perhaps it shouldn't!

I have one niece and one nephew, and YES I did

Headabovetheparakeet · 23/01/2023 17:36

Did they message you?

Yes they did! 🥰

As I said, I won't be saying anything to anyone. I'm just a little disappointed

I have 6 and have never missed a birthday.

Krakenes · 23/01/2023 17:38

Are you sure they’re not just in the post. I’ve just received a Christmas card sent on 19 December!!

UsingChangeofName · 23/01/2023 17:38

I would be very disappointed too.

Well quite possibly. One brother asked me for present ideas, I sent links and he said thanks but nothing received. That's probably in the post?

What?? My eldest Nibbling is 24 this year, next will be 21. Never missed a card. Then huge gap. Mines 7, nibble is 6 and 5, then mine are 3 and nibbles are brand new and coming soon. They'll all get cards until I die cos, it's a thing to send cards at birthdays

Headabovetheparakeet · 23/01/2023 17:41

My son has a January birthday and I do think it can get a bit 'lost'.

Heli1copter · 23/01/2023 17:41

DHs family constantly forget my DC birthdays. Most years they manage to send something but it can be weeks/months after the event. FIL once sent a present addressed to DD2 a week after DD1s birthday with an item of clothing that was the wrong size/age for both. I've come to expect nothing now

Most probably! I ordered something for my brother 2 weeks ago and it still hasn’t showed up yet!! It’s terrible at the moment!

Birthday cards are dying out. Text messages or Facebook or Instagram are the communication methods now. Also, a one-year-old can't read them or even understand who they are from. Unless you are one of those scrapbookers, why would you even want cards.
Wasted resources, wasted postage, wasted time.

Fair comment

They messaged you, surely that's sufficient?

How much value are you going to get out of a card, realistically?

Its rubbish isn’t it Op

My sister and I are extremely close, my life is definitely enhanced by having her in it. I still wouldn't send birthday cards to her kids, I'd send a message like a normal person.

lyson · 23/01/2023 18:21

Oof, was listening but then you lost me

I'm OK with that. The thing about posting on internet forums is that you're inviting people with a range of opinions to respond. :)
