Accidentally dialled 112

Aargh. I was sleepily trying to turn my audio book down on my phone but must have been pressing the button underneath the volume one (the one you press to turn the phone off) and it suddenly started doing this noise like an alarm and then said something about emergency on the screen then it said calling 112. I was frantically trying to hang up as I realised but I think it either rang once or half a ring. I got a notification thing that said my phone had temporarily unblocked blocked numbers for 2 hours to make sure emergency numbers can contact me.

What might happen now? I hope the police won't turn up! I need to go back to sleep because I have to be up in 3 hours but I'm worried to incase they're trying to phone back or worse turn up at the house. Would they phone back rather than turn up? It's been 20 minutes now. I wonder if I should put the volume up on my phone in case they call. I feel so so stupid.

It'll be fine. You didn't even connect to an operator.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if they still know you've phoned - everything I've read online says don't hang up, stay on the line and tell them it was accidental. It was literally half a ring to a ring. It's been almost half an hour now so hopefully I can go back to sleep....

They're not going to call

Glitterblue · 23/01/2023 04:20

@Clymene thank you, going to see if I can get back to sleep. I wasn't sure if everything registers with them in case you have you phone snatched as you're trying to call them, or you're in a medical emergency and can't continue the call and then they call back to check everything is OK. We're at 40 minutes now so hopefully of they were going to call back they'd have done it by now.

Nothing happens. DS did it with 999 twice when he was little. It never connected as I managed to cancel. Nobody rang back or turned up.
If you connect and don't say anything then I think that's when they phone back.

@fairgame84 thank you, that's put my mind at rest!
