"My baby"

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:41

Genuinely not sure if I ABU or not. It makes me cringe when people call their children over the age of about 6 months "my baby". In my eyes they just don't necessarily seem like babies any more. I can sort of understand up until 12 months but definitely not after. I've come across people calling their child of nearly two year old "my baby".

Neil the baby must have really triggered you then 🤣.

Odd thread to start when you don't even have kids, It's like me starting one about dog owners who call their dogs their children. I don't have a dog and don't get it, therefore a pointless topic to start a thread on.

Raddyradiator · 22/01/2023 22:40

My cat 7, DS4 and DD 18 months are all my babies. I refer to my cat as my first born.

whataboutism · 22/01/2023 22:42

Almost!

BabyMomma2021 · 22/01/2023 22:44

I think the main question here is why do you care? Why waste your energy on what other people do? A non issue.

BridieConvert · 22/01/2023 22:45

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:45

Would you say to others in everyday conversation though? For example "I've got to go and pick my baby up from nursery"

Why does it matter? How does it affect your life?

My daughter will be 3 in March, she is very much still my baby, even though I also have a 4 month old baby! It's just a term of endearment.

If you ever have a child I hope you come back to us and let us know what you call them once they hit 6 months, cause I guarantee it will be "baby"

1983Louise · 22/01/2023 22:52

My Dad still calls me Bab and I'm 60.in July 😀

So as not to drip feed I have not got any children hence why I think I may be BU.

Errrrr why are you on mumsnet then? 🤔

Merlo · 22/01/2023 22:58

What an odd thing to give a shit about!

YouMadeABear · 22/01/2023 22:59

Nah, I've got a 10yo baby and a 7yo baby, collectively my babies. Also a baby Doggy who is my baby. And a grumpy old cat who, at 13, is my baby boy.

You could say they’re your 120 month and 84 month babies then we really would be in the shit 😉

Blueeyedgirl21 · 22/01/2023 23:02

What am I supposed to call my 7 month old, my child who is not a newborn but not a toddler ?? Aka a B A B Y

I don't have any children either. I have parrots though who well are over the age of 6 months. They are, and will always be, my babies. Grin

Hard to believe you look at an 8 month old child in its parents arms and don't see a 'baby'.

I knew you didn't have children. 🙄😂

Bayleaf25 · 22/01/2023 23:05

😂 still call DS my baby and he’s almost 20. Partly because he is, partly to embarrass him, but he secretly loves it too.

Songbird54321 · 22/01/2023 23:06

Both of my kids are my babies and will be forever, DD1 is 5 so my big baby. DD2 is almost 10 months, my little baby and in every definition, an actual baby.
What baffles me more than anything is why this would effect you in any way? Such an odd thing to be bothered about

Plenty of non-parents on MN, you weirdo for asking that question.

They do brand our foreheads on the way in with a scarlet letter and ask us not to breathe near the fruitful so you should be safe.

You may want to check out the multiple threads that ask and answer that question 🙄

YABU, my 3 year old dog is by baby too 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lifeomars · 22/01/2023 23:20

My adult child is my baby in my head! even now if they are having a hard time it hurts my heart (not that I ever verbalise this to them) . I was still my mum's baby or "my beautiful girl" as she always called me. I did not understand this until I had a child myself. I feel that way about my nieces too, they are young women now but I still see the babies they once were and feel that love and protectiveness

wordler · 22/01/2023 23:27

My baby is about to be a teenager.

It’s more like starting a thread about dog owners calling their dogs “their dogs”! Since she objects to people calling actual 7 mo babies “my baby” Grin

Johnisafckface · 23/01/2023 00:43

I hate to admit it but i find it odd too. I have a friend that always says he’s’ gotta take care of his baby or gotta pick up his baby - his baby is 13 😂. Seems weird to me.

tocas · 23/01/2023 06:10

😂😂 OK I have not rtft but clearly iabu, thanks for clearing it up for me
