VW Golf auto - is there a noticeable lag?

Can anyone who's driven an automatic VW Golf please help me out and tell me if there is a noticeable 'lag' when you take off? I mean a delay between pushing the accelerator and the car moving? And if so, is it a problem limited to certain manufacture years?

I'm looking at buying a second hand car and like the look of the Golf but read that this may be an issue?

Yes, I've had a couple of VWs with the DSG box and it's noticeable at junctions.

You get used to it but it can be a bit frustrating if you need to pull out quickly.

Most automatics have a slight lag if the clutch is disengaged, no Biggie. You just adapt your driving style to suit. Truth be told I'd never go back to a manual having driven mostly VW cars with DSG boxes for the last 5 years, all from new.

I'd be wary of buying a second hand auto however, just ensure the gearbox has been serviced properly as well as the engine.

Is the stop/start enabled?
Certainly on our auto Polo the stop/start activates almost immediately you pull up which is very annoying as it does cause a momentary (split second) delay when pulling away. I could understand if it had a delay of a few seconds but this is practically the instant you pull up.
It is always disabled now.

I’m on my second auto Golf. First was GTD, current one is R. Always disable stop/start (doing that is more environmentally friendly as it happens) and if you drive in sport mode it’s off like a rocket! Never going back to manual, although that said, I can drive in manual off the paddles if I want to.
