To use Chatgpt to make me popular on Mumsnet

Meltedcheeses · 21/01/2023 14:16

I asked Chatgpt to write a post for Mumsnet that would get lots of comments.

This is what it said!!!!

See images.

YABU - the post chatgpt suggested is not a great post and even is quite moronic and patronising
YANBU - let us indeed all discuss meals at length

Surprised it didn't produce a terrible husband OR MIL story, or someone sharing their sleep training/CIO methods.

Those topics usually get people going

Forthelast · 21/01/2023 14:23

To be fair, that would generate a lot of comments using entirely misleading words like chuck, pop, throw, toss and hurl.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 21/01/2023 14:23

You'd need to make it less generic - say exactly who you were cooking for and so on - but that type of thread usually gets responses, although not very interesting as people just list email ideas.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 21/01/2023 14:24

Meal ideas, not email ideas

UWhatNow · 21/01/2023 14:28

I see sexism and misogyny is alive and well in the AI world. Women being the good little domestic slaves they’ve always been!

Persipan · 21/01/2023 14:30

I think it just tends to write things that are quite... boring. I thought the same when I prompted it to write other things previously. I just tried asking it for a Mumsnet post and it came up with:.

Help needed with toddler's picky eating habits

Hi all,

I hope you're all keeping well. I'm currently at my wit's end with my toddler's fussy eating habits. He's always been a bit choosy but recently it's gotten worse and I'm struggling to know what to do.

He only wants to eat a small selection of foods and refuses to try anything new. I've tried offering the same meal multiple times, offering a variety of healthy options, and even hiding veggies in his food, but nothing seems to be working.

I'm worried about his nutrition and I don't want to turn meal times into a battle. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Which is perfectly comprehensible and plausible, but just really bland.

Persipan · 21/01/2023 14:35

Hahaha and now I asked it to write me one asking for opinions about an unusual baby name and it did... and the name was... Scott.

Persipan · 21/01/2023 14:36

Okay, it tried again and landed on Zephyrine, which is a bit more like it.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/01/2023 14:37

So lots of the stuff posted here not real issues, just made up by a chatbot and reposted here by tats that want to "be popular on MN"?
Along with the posts by 1am-had-a-bottle-too-much-wine crazies, what does that leave?

ThinWomansBrain · 21/01/2023 14:38

*tats - twats

yousmellnice · 21/01/2023 14:39

Awful. I'd think you were fishing for ideas for an article.

Gunpowder · 21/01/2023 14:41

I think both of those examples would generate some sarcastic replies because the tone (while prob fine for some other parenting websites) is so un MN.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone start a post with ‘Hello Mums!’ And ‘I hope you are all keeping well’ sounds like the beginning of a round Robin email. Neither post is funny or wry or despairing(!) Agree they are bland. I have often responded to recipe request threads but wouldn’t bother with either of those.

Christmaspyjamas · 21/01/2023 14:48

@Persipan hahaha that's from one extreme to the other. Scott made me laugh.

A real person would be much more specific about what foods he was eating.

Yes I found the "Hello Mums" quite hilarious.

I might ask it how to write a text to my sister that will make her apologise. What could possibly go wrong.

SmileyClare · 21/01/2023 14:48

Are you a working mum struggling to think of quick meals for your family?

If you’re not, what’s the point in asking? Who cares if you get lots of replies?

I mean what’s the point? Confused

Christmaspyjamas · 21/01/2023 14:53

@SmileyClare this is a tongue in cheek post which highlights how one of the most popular generative AI tools understands Mumsnet and invites reflections on how good a job ChatGPT did in understanding the site and topics and ways of talking likely to see high levels of engagement.

I was curious to see how chatgpt could understand topics and tone from a variety of sites and forums to produce content that would resonate.

I am not seriously trying to invent posts for comments😣sorry if you were genuinely unaware of that.

That will generate a huge thread because there'll be a bunfight about use of the word 'gotten'.

JaneJeffer · 21/01/2023 14:56

Ask it to make one about finding a married man on a dating app Grin

yousmellnice · 21/01/2023 14:57

I cook for a person who has an outing hobby;let's call them Barry.

Gold star! I see those posts loads and they always get lots of comments.

SmileyClare · 21/01/2023 15:07

Ok so just a plug for chatgpt.
I couldn’t care less how a bot views a chat forum but thanks for your lengthy bot like reply

Meltedcheeses · 21/01/2023 16:39

@JaneJeffer your idea was good....the post you requested is quite funny I think

I asked it to write a typical angry MN post a while back and it came up with a lazy husband.

"Warning: Rant Ahead!

I am so fed up with my partner. He constantly leaves his dirty clothes all over the floor and expects me to pick them up. I work full-time and come home to a mess every single day. And when I ask him to pick them up, he just says "I'll do it later" and then never does.

I'm tired of being the only one who seems to care about keeping our house clean and organized. It's not like I'm asking for a 5-star hotel, just a bit of common decency and respect for our home.

Why is it that men seem to think it's okay to just dump their stuff wherever they please and expect someone else to clean up after them? I'm at my wit's end and don't know how to get through to him. Any advice on how to deal with a lazy and inconsiderate partner would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for letting me vent."

yousmellnice · 21/01/2023 16:44

@noblegiraffe That's a good one
