Family of 4. 2 adults and 2 teenage dc.

Whole family usually have porridge or weetabix for breakfast on weekdays. There are no weight or health issues and food is plentiful in the house.

Weekend morning, adult1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a toasted muffin with eggs for lunch.

Dc1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a sandwich for lunch.

Dc2 has toast for breakfast and would also like a sandwich for lunch.

Adult1 says dc2 can't have a sandwich, as they've already had bread today, but can have a toasted muffin instead.

Adult2 thinks that bagels/bread/muffins are all more or less the same so it makes no difference and dc should have what they want for lunch.

Adult 1 is mental

Iwantmyoldnameback · 21/01/2023 11:53

I agree with adult 2 which I guess is you.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 21/01/2023 11:54

Zero difference between toast, toasted muffin, toasted bagel. Its all wheat, water, salt, yeast, preservatives

PeekAtYou · 21/01/2023 11:55

Of course adult 2 is right.

MaverickGooseGoose · 21/01/2023 11:56

Is adult 1 really stupid?

ZED55JAX0 · 21/01/2023 11:56

It’s all basically the same so yes agree with adult two

BitOutOfPractice · 21/01/2023 11:56

Adult 2 is right.

and who made adult 1 the food police anyway?

Fairislefandango · 21/01/2023 11:56

Adult 1 is bonkers and being weirdly controlling in a totally arbitrary way. Is there an argument to say that eating less processed bread-type products is probably a good thing? Sure. Does that mean you should ban your teenager from eating bread at 2 meals on a given day? No. And yes, adult 2 is quite right that muffin and bread are essentially the same thing anyway.

Imogensmumma · 21/01/2023 11:57

Surely a muffin is worse than a sandwich with higher carbs and sugars

renonovice · 21/01/2023 11:57

bread is bread so Adult2 is correct

SallySunrise · 21/01/2023 11:58

Adult 2 is right and adult 1 is being weird.

AliceOlive · 21/01/2023 11:59

Seems controlling!

PacificallyRequested · 21/01/2023 11:59

Adult 1 is an idiot. Already had bread today, wtf? It's surely not unusual to have toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch.

IntentionalError · 21/01/2023 12:00

Adult 1 is ridiculous. Parents can’t control what teenagers eat to that degree & shouldn’t try to.

newnamethanks · 21/01/2023 12:01

It's all bread and it's a ridiculous argument.

tabulahrasa · 21/01/2023 12:03

Have something instead of bread, I could understand the thinking behind... but just, have different shaped bread is pointless.

Seeline · 21/01/2023 12:04

I'd be pleased if a) teens were up in time for breakfast and b) ate breakfast.
It's up to them what they eat on a weekend as long as it doesn't disrupt the general eating plan.
Adult 1 is mad and unreasonable

Tiswa · 21/01/2023 12:04

Does adult1 have disordered thinking around food because if sc2 wants a sandwich for lunch so what

Colderthanever · 21/01/2023 12:04

So what is wrong with adult one then, why are they being weird and food controlling?

AlwaysCountYourPennies · 21/01/2023 12:06

Adult 2 is correct.
Adult I is very strange!

Colderthanever · 21/01/2023 12:06

And agree with the others, how come adult 1 is so ignorant about food?

ThinWomansBrain · 21/01/2023 12:09

Assuming adult 1 has prepared some amazing low carb lunch dish that contains no bread, why isn't Adult 1 eating it? (presumably himself)

knobheadinlaws · 21/01/2023 12:09

As long as DC can make it themselves, who cares?

Tell Adult 1 to do one

AuroraForever · 21/01/2023 12:14

An excellent way of giving your kids issues around food!!

Muffins are bread, bagels are bread, bread is bread. If adult 1 can have a bagel and a muffin in the same day, then dc2 can have toast and a sandwich in the same day. Dc1 can have a bagel and a sandwich but this isn’t an issue?!

Jules912 · 21/01/2023 12:14

I buy enough sliced bread for everyone to have some once a day, if they have more we run out. Yes, I am aware I could buy more but then I end up with way too much and it goes mouldy before we use it.
However assuming it's not something like that then there's no difference between bread and a muffin.
