Family of 4. 2 adults and 2 teenage dc.

Whole family usually have porridge or weetabix for breakfast on weekdays. There are no weight or health issues and food is plentiful in the house.

Weekend morning, adult1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a toasted muffin with eggs for lunch.

Dc1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a sandwich for lunch.

Dc2 has toast for breakfast and would also like a sandwich for lunch.

Adult1 says dc2 can't have a sandwich, as they've already had bread today, but can have a toasted muffin instead.

Adult2 thinks that bagels/bread/muffins are all more or less the same so it makes no difference and dc should have what they want for lunch.

Adult 1 is an idiot, but surely you must be aware of this by now? There must have been other signs!

pattihews · 21/01/2023 12:27

Adult 1 is a man who has never made bread, let alone muffins or bagles. What does he think they're made from?

I'm sad to have to tell you you're married to an idiot.

Fooddrama · 21/01/2023 12:28

Yes I am adult2.

Both dc are having their sandwich as dh is being ridiculous, he's not nasty or going to try and overrule me. But I don't understand why it's even a discussion in the first place.

Apart from that lots of bread isn't the healthiest option, which I'm well aware of. It doesn't matter what type of bread it is you can't eat 2 lots yourself then tell someone else that they can't.

Show him the ingredient list on each packet.

Fooddrama · 21/01/2023 12:34

Yes I think I will.

The thing is, dh isn't a bad cook at all and makes pizza dough we do a lot of home cooking together so I don't get where his weird ideas come from.

They’re all bread and there’s zero reason why you can’t have bread in any form for every meal of the day if that’s what you want.

Flowersonthewall123 · 21/01/2023 12:44

Adult 1 either had an eating disorder or is going to impose an eating disorder on their kids

BadNomad · 21/01/2023 12:51

Why is Adult1 having breakfast for lunch?

pattihews · 21/01/2023 13:04

I think the most concerning thing is that he doesn't know that bread, muffins and bagels are all made from wheat, yeast and water. If he does that's worse, isn't it. It gives you an insight into how off his thinking is.

felulageller · 21/01/2023 13:06

Bonkers

MrsRinaDecker · 21/01/2023 13:09

I don’t personally like eating the same food twice in one day, but no way I’d impose that on someone else!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 21/01/2023 13:09

Adult 1 is controlling and thick as pig shit.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/01/2023 13:12

I'm told, by my talking bin, that this is how World War 1 started.

Well, first an argument about bread based food which then escalated to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

So please be careful.

ReviewingTheSituation · 21/01/2023 13:13

Bagels are 'worse' nutritionally than bread (if the bread is wholemeal), as they're high in sugar. So 2 lots of bread is a better option than 1 bagel/1 bread.

But of course 2x bread products is fine!

maddy68 · 21/01/2023 13:18

Well they are all bready but surely you have what you fancy?

Ah, the sugar police have arrived to remind us that bagels contain a smaller amount of sugar than a piece of fruit...

Adult 2

Testina · 21/01/2023 13:47

Your husband is being a dick.

But why all this adult 1 adult 2 shit? 🙄

Motelschmotel · 21/01/2023 14:08

Bagels are the food of the gods, but the work of the devil. Super dense carbs, almost entirely nutritionally vacant. Best eaten with lashing of butter, cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, red onions and everything seasoning 😋

FrancescaContini · 21/01/2023 14:10

Adult 1 sounds very controlling around food.

Vegetablesupreme · 21/01/2023 14:27

What's wrong with having bread twice a day? Especially for DC's who need the carbs for energy!

AdaColeman · 21/01/2023 14:54

Let them eat cake! Cake Cake Cake

Blendandmix · 21/01/2023 15:11

I'm with adult 1- I tend to only eat bread once a day and if I give my daughter toast for breakfast I wouldn't give bread again that day

Blendandmix · 21/01/2023 15:12

But she's 1. If she was a teenager she can make her own mind up

yousmellnice · 21/01/2023 15:17

English muffin? Then yeah it's all bread.
