Family of 4. 2 adults and 2 teenage dc.

Whole family usually have porridge or weetabix for breakfast on weekdays. There are no weight or health issues and food is plentiful in the house.

Weekend morning, adult1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a toasted muffin with eggs for lunch.

Dc1 has a toasted bagel for breakfast and is going to have a sandwich for lunch.

Dc2 has toast for breakfast and would also like a sandwich for lunch.

Adult1 says dc2 can't have a sandwich, as they've already had bread today, but can have a toasted muffin instead.

Adult2 thinks that bagels/bread/muffins are all more or less the same so it makes no difference and dc should have what they want for lunch.

Adult 1 sounds very controlling around food.

Yeah

I don't like bagels. Too chewy. I notice crumpets are not listed as an option. There is nothing better for conveying melted butter to your mouth unless it's a spoon.

I'm told, by my talking bin, that this is how World War 1 started.

Well, first an argument about bread based food which then escalated to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

So please be careful.

😂

Ah, the sugar police have arrived to remind us that bagels contain a smaller amount of sugar than a piece of fruit...

I said nothing of the sort!
I merely pointed out the flaw in the logic that 2x bread is 'worse' than 1x bread/1x bagel, whereas the adult in question was suggesting it was better.

I never said there was anything wrong with a bagel at all. In fact bagels are generally the only bread product in this house, I had one for lunch and will have one for breakfast. But that doesn't change the fact that there is more sugar in them than bread, and bread would be a better choice nutritionally.

They are all carbs and will be processed by the body into glucose regardless how they started out. Bagel muffin white bread crossaint etc

What if DC was really hungry and wanted TWO sandwiches? Time to move out?

Your DH is being absolutely ridiculous!

JustDanceAddict · 21/01/2023 18:36

It’s all bread (rubbish bread unless wholegrain to boot!).

Muffinmctuffin · 21/01/2023 18:44

Why only DC2 who can't have a sandwich - why is DC1 allowed? I'm guessing DC2 is a girl?

Adult 1 clearly wrong and even more so if the above is correct.

Yes I think I will.

The thing is, dh isn't a bad cook at all and makes pizza dough we do a lot of home cooking together so I don't get where his weird ideas come from.

His parents? That's usually where weird food ideas come from

Hagpie · 21/01/2023 18:47

Adult 1 should be more careful how they speak about food in front of their child.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/01/2023 19:10

I had peanut butter (and banana) on toast for breakfast, a ham/salad butty for lunch and have just eaten a burger in a brioche roll for tea. It’s not crossed my mind I’ve overdone the ‘bread’ stuff.

topcat2014 · 21/01/2023 19:21

AFAIK bread rationing finished 70 years ago
