Do you feel silly going for a walk by yourself without a dog?!

I love walking, quite like my own company, but I always feel silly going for a walk by myself! It would be much easier if I had a dog! Does anyone else feel like this or is it fine to go for a long walk by yourself?!

No, of course not 🤔 I mean I walk to get places and I don’t feel silly. Maybe if I was dressed as a clown squeaking with every step. But just walking the streets? No, that feels normal to me.

LittleBearPad · 21/01/2023 09:44

No. Not at all.

Who do you think is worrying about such stuff

Nevermind31 · 21/01/2023 09:44

No, of course not.

Never!

Curiosity101 · 21/01/2023 09:45

Do you judge/feel like other people look silly walking on their own?

If someone is walking within your view for a few minutes how do you differentiate between those that are going to meet someone/commuting somewhere as opposed to a leisure walk?

In short... There's nothing wrong with going for a walk on your own 🤷

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 21/01/2023 09:45

Not at all but my dog seems to 😂 he gives very funny looks to people who are out waking without a dog!

Nik2879 · 21/01/2023 09:46

I know what u mean. I use to before I had my little boy now I don’t because I have the pram to push. Weird isnt it. The only people I use to all had dogs though.

transformandriseup · 21/01/2023 09:46

Not at all, I would happily walk for miles by myself in the countryside.

MarshaMelrose · 21/01/2023 09:46

I get more enjoyment going with the dog but I can keep up a better pace without him. He's a sniffing nightmare. I never feel silly. No one even looks twice.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 21/01/2023 09:46

I have dogs so walk a lot. I'd say about 50% of the people I encounter out walking have no dogs. Of those, at least half are walking on their own. It's really common.

100%

At the coast is fine as there are loads of people but in woods etc it is a bit daunting. I always feel you need a dog for woods.😂

saltofcelery · 21/01/2023 09:47

Absolutely not! I do it every day. I see lots of others doing it too.

crumpet · 21/01/2023 09:47

Up in our local wood I am most of the time seen without the dog who is away exploring

Woolandwonder · 21/01/2023 09:47

Totally. I walk a neighbours dog once a week but don't enjoy going without her at all. Feel quite self conscious.

tulippa · 21/01/2023 09:47

No.

Remagirl · 21/01/2023 09:48

I do but that's because I've always usually got my dog with me.

Dogs are usually reacting to how you are feeling.

shivawn · 21/01/2023 09:49

Not at all, I stick in my earphone and get in the zone. I love a good power walk.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 21/01/2023 09:49

I agree OP. I occasionally go for a walk in the local woods and virtually everyone I see either has a dog or is with other people, and yes, I do feel self conscious - like I have no 'purpose' to my walk.

Bigweekend · 21/01/2023 09:49

I prefer to run, but will walk whe I'm injured. I know what you mean. I don't feel that it's odd, but it is definitely unusual. You do see lots of lone walkers when you're in proper walking countryeg costal paths or national parks) , but in a local country park yiu don't.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/01/2023 09:50

No, people go for walks all the time and have done so for thousands of years. Why would it be silly??

Bigweekend · 21/01/2023 09:50

Oops posted instead of correcting!

In fact, I was once asked if I'd lost my dog and needed help to find it when out walking in a park alone.

Benjispruce4 · 21/01/2023 09:50

If you feel conspicuous walking aimlessly, start by walking somewhere to get something or meet someone.

flabbygoldfish · 21/01/2023 09:51

I walk without a dog, but I do enjoy a good podcast for company. The only people who think you are silly are people with a dog who may comment on it and ask where is your dog.
