Do you feel silly going for a walk by yourself without a dog?!

I love walking, quite like my own company, but I always feel silly going for a walk by myself! It would be much easier if I had a dog! Does anyone else feel like this or is it fine to go for a long walk by yourself?!

No, of course not 🤔 I mean I walk to get places and I don’t feel silly. Maybe if I was dressed as a clown squeaking with every step. But just walking the streets? No, that feels normal to me.

Do you judge/feel like other people look silly walking on their own?

If someone is walking within your view for a few minutes how do you differentiate between those that are going to meet someone/commuting somewhere as opposed to a leisure walk?

In short... There's nothing wrong with going for a walk on your own 🤷

Not at all but my dog seems to 😂 he gives very funny looks to people who are out waking without a dog!

I know what u mean. I use to before I had my little boy now I don’t because I have the pram to push. Weird isnt it. The only people I use to all had dogs though.

I get more enjoyment going with the dog but I can keep up a better pace without him. He's a sniffing nightmare. I never feel silly. No one even looks twice.

I have dogs so walk a lot. I'd say about 50% of the people I encounter out walking have no dogs. Of those, at least half are walking on their own. It's really common.

At the coast is fine as there are loads of people but in woods etc it is a bit daunting. I always feel you need a dog for woods.😂

Totally. I walk a neighbours dog once a week but don't enjoy going without her at all. Feel quite self conscious.

I agree OP. I occasionally go for a walk in the local woods and virtually everyone I see either has a dog or is with other people, and yes, I do feel self conscious - like I have no 'purpose' to my walk.

I prefer to run, but will walk whe I'm injured. I know what you mean. I don't feel that it's odd, but it is definitely unusual. You do see lots of lone walkers when you're in proper walking countryeg costal paths or national parks) , but in a local country park yiu don't.

In fact, I was once asked if I'd lost my dog and needed help to find it when out walking in a park alone.

If you feel conspicuous walking aimlessly, start by walking somewhere to get something or meet someone.

I walk without a dog, but I do enjoy a good podcast for company. The only people who think you are silly are people with a dog who may comment on it and ask where is your dog.
