Middle names !

Hi all,

Me and my OH are expecting our first and probably likely our only child. We've found out she's a little girls 🥰 we are so excited!!
Only problem is we are struggling to agree on middle names. If the baby was a boy we were going to use his dad and step dad's names as they are pretty classic and sounded good together but for a girl I don't like either of our mums names and I also wouldn't want to leave out his step mum. Am I being unreasonable by saying no and asking for something unrelated ?

No, that's not unreasonable. I say that b/c otherwise you run the risk of doing what I did. Which is give our only child 2 middle names to appease both families 😂

As long as you both like the names, that's all that matters really.

Could you make a nice name from letters of theirs, or mash them up a bit to make one?
Do their names have shortened/ nicknames that are nicer?

Ultimately though it's your decision ( fwiw I don't like the one I was given).

What about giving baby your name, or a variant of it, as a middle name ?

Remmy123 · 21/01/2023 07:42

Choose a name you like

in reality no one even uses their middle name

my kids don't even know what theirs is I mean who even asks for middle names

Ponoka7 · 21/01/2023 07:42

When the name is awful we use a variant of it.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 21/01/2023 07:44

Is there a variant of the names you could use? We didn’t want to use Margaret as a middle name for dd so she has Megan

AFS1 · 21/01/2023 08:11

Use whatever name you like and (more importantly) that goes well with the first name.

My daughter has my mother’s name as her middle name. She died before she was born and we always knew if we had a girl that would be the middle name.
We don’t like any of the male names in the family, so my son has a middle name that has absolutely no connection to either family whatsoever.

Also you don't have to give her a middle name at all 🤷🏽‍♀️

Toottooot · 21/01/2023 08:28

Just don’t give her one - it’s not required 🤷🏻‍♀️

SeasonFinale · 21/01/2023 08:29

Never understood why a baby needs to be named after anyone at all. Just give her her own name.

Flamingogirl08 · 21/01/2023 08:41

We used my mums name as middle but don't really like MIL name, however her middle name is May and baba was born in May so we used that
